Benchmade or Spyderco poll

Taking all factors into account, which company is better?

I appreciate the many Spyderco options more. That and I've never received a Spyderco knife dull from the factory. I can't say the same about BM. Granted, my sample size is rather small in comparison to most here...

Four years or so ago I'd vote both (a tie). Nowadays, I vote neither. They were both good brands of mid-range pieces IMO but they are both overpriced significantly at this point. I'd pony up a bit to buy a Hinderer or a CRK. BTW, ZT's current price sucks big too. What used to be the three brands of my first choice have become the ones that I'd have to think carefully before pressing the buy button.

I have never seen a Spyderco that I liked. I have seen a Benchmade knife or two I would be willing to own. However I don't own knives from either company, and don't expect that to change. As for which is the better company? I have no idea.

O.B.
Same. I couldn't vote, I don't have either one. And I don't plan on buying any. I think my buying days are just about over and definitely slowing down quite a bit. And a lot of that is due to the inflated prices. I think it's time for me to start using what I've got.

Neither are a "favorite" in my choice of manufacturers but I've owned both and would lend my vote to Spyderco due to their simplicity and wide range of different steels within a relatively low cost. Benchmades may be more appealing aesthetically but come at a higher price range. Both seem to satisfy a lot of people looking for a knife under or around three hundred bucks. I do recall a buddy of mine picking up a Benchmade from a gun show around 2010 that was $500 then and was not a "gold class" knife, I cannot remember the model but he sort of inspired me to spend more money on my knives lol. Safe to say some of us got in the game of collecting knives a little late in respect to some really cool Benchmades. I've seen some older Benchmade models on here from collectors that I wouldn't mind having. I don't think either brand is any better than the other, my two cents.

I voted Spyderco for the variety of steel choices, the heat treatment and the durable locks. In general, though, I find benchmade knives more aesthetically pleasing. I'd always take a Sebenza over either.

Obviously I like both quite a bit, and both make great solid knives, but the poll says which company is better. One's owner is actively present on the forums. That says alot IMO. Not to mention the number of knives they release in steels that cater to the enthusiast.

if I had to choose one of the two for all my knives, I'd go BM. Fortunately, I don't. Both are great, but neither is my favorite.

Over the years I’ve had occasion to utilize customer service for both brands. Benchmade was most helpful in resolving my issue(s) in a speedy, caring and satisfactory manner. On the other hand, Spyderco (once I was able to communicate with a human being) was quite the opposite and my quest for a part or two (screws) and the one year wait to replace the defective Siren were unacceptable. Now, if I feel the need for a Spyderco product, I’ll purchase it on the secondary market.

Benchmade.

Spyderco knives are kind of ugly. I consider them the Glocks of the knife world: ugly, yet strangely fascinating; revolutionary, efficient, reliable, durable.
I felt much the same ...until I tried Spyderco (and Glocks) for myself .

Then I understood : form follows function and that is beautiful , IMO !
