Benchmade pricing seems to have changed

Where is the user with the "Benchmade" avatar? Or is there someone else to come in and explain all of this? Or do they think that if they don't say anything, we will not notice the price increase?

I agree they were competitive, but no more competetive than Spyderco. Both companies use high quality materials, both are made in the US. Spyderco is my favored brand, as they also offer a "Value" class made in China for those new to knives. As others have said, just my opinion.

The Delica seems to be pretty much the same as a mini grip. I have a Delica, and I have a mini grip on the way to compare. (yep, at the old price)

Haven't seen any decline in the desire for Sebenzas and most back up the $325 or whatever plus price tag as being justifiable. Spyderco and Benchmade (Bradley) both make Ti Framelock knives that come in under $200 and are subjectively comparable. Maybe there will be some Benchmades aren't worth it with the price change but I believe the value will still be there. Could be worse, like I said just throwing my opinions out there to the mix for discussions sake.

Like someone said earlier, Benchmade needs to be told that they are not Chris Reeve! Just curious, do you have a Sebenza? Mine is uncomparable to the Benchmades that I have.

I've had a couple small Sebenzas in the past, they are great knives. I've also had the Spyderco Techno, Sage II, Benchmade Pinnacle, and Bradley Alias II and I guess I didn't feel short changed by any of those compared to the Sebenza (again guys just my opinion) and felt better about the price vs value. I probably should not have mentioned the Sebenza in an effort to stay on topic. I know that's another passionate debate. Just trying to express that while I do not enjoy the price/policy changes I still think there is good value there for money spent.

...but in my opinion at the current/recent past discounts, Benchmade was NOT a great bargain...not even a small bargain...they were merely competitive. At MSRP, they are completely uncompetitive.

Yeah, as I said earlier in the thread this is my take as well. BM makes a nice knife (and I have about a dozen of them) but they are a nice knife at the discounted price point - IMHO. At this new price, not so much. Ah, well. It was nice while it lasted. I'm starting to concentrate on traditionals anyway. No biggie. Just a little disappointed.

I haven't heard anything on Facebook, nor has there been word at the benchmadeforum .

My guess is they view what little they see as a tiny tempest in a teacup, hardly anything in the big picture.

I have enough Benchmade knives to last my lifetime, so long as each lasts ~5 years. :)

+ 1,my thoughts exactly!

I'm not sure how many members are on Bladeforums.com, but I would imagine a fair number. I would also guess that this would be a fairly large concentration of folder fans, who spend money till the cows come home. And of course, with Benchmade being a very popular brand, a fairly large concentration of Benchmade customers. In fact, if I had anything to do with Benchmade sales, I would be on here 24/7 or, appoint someone in the company to monitor. Maybe they do that now, but with no announcement, we can merely assume not.
This forum provides a great marketing tool for such companies, as well as a great resource for feedback, suggestions and such.
Honestly, if I were Benchmade, I would be all over this forum like a fly on you know what. But, like I said, we can only assume.
Cheers

Maybe this increase is how they are going to pay a new employee to monitor the forums and social media outlets.

Shameful at this point with 11 pages of posts. Are they blind? I think we know more than they do; and maybe that scares 'em. I had plans on buying a Christmas present. That's now officially on hold.

Good one.;)
But if I worked in sales or marketing there, I would be doing it for free on my own time.
Cheers
Not sure about social media outlets though.

I have a crate of Benchmades...fifteen years' worth. I don't have any short term needs. It will be a cold day in Heck, or after a change in the pricing policy, before I buy an other.

BTW, Spyderco experimented with this many years ago. They came to their senses. ;) Let's hope Benchmade does the same.

That's up to you. $65 shipped for a Mini Griptilian, made in the USA with quality materials was a bargain as far as I'm concerned. Sure Kershaw and maybe others have USA made knives that come in under that price but none that have the same substance as something like the Griptilian, again strictly my opinion.

I was not just an early adopter but an initial adopter of the Axis lock - I like the knives. :) But you can't buy that Grip for that price today, or at least not at more than one dealer and I think we can assume BM is going to shut Roger down in short order. :( Bah humbug.

Yes and that does bother me. Roger and GPknives, Blade HQ all are huge representations of their brand especially when they work to offer special Dealer only limited runs. I hate to see them stepping on their toes. I also hope that since there has been no response yet they are making a reconsideration on the matter before they address it.

Well that makes two of us J., well-heeled, versed, and stocked up without the need for any more. I may not have fifteen years' worth, but made up for that in accumulation over maybe eight. Sadly, the best years of this were four or five years ago - never mind a few brilliant limited's since. But those are not enough to keep the boat afloat.

Stuff like these were worth the effort and expense:

Looking at GPK's, BHQ's and KC's sites it appears they have already complied with the new pricing policy, KW and CS are still doing the discounts.

If I had to guess, the folks on this forum buying Benchmade knives are a drop in the bucket to their other sales. We are not as big as we think we are.

David, I think you have the answer.

I think we can agree that the military is a large customer of Benchmade. We can probably also agree that military always overpays for everything. It might just be that they have done the simple maths that Joe Public, with discount codes, is getting Benchmades a lot cheaper than the military machine is and have put pressure on BMK. A possibility maybe?

Whatever the reason for BMK's policy it kind of sucks that they haven't seen themselves stooping to our humble level to give a bit of an explanation. The lack of response, is in my mind a response of it's own - the original digital communication - a middle finger.

Personally I have enough BMKs to last a long time so I'll just watch this from the sidelines and fill my knife desires with other brands. At MAP, Benchmades and Emersons might just have similar pricing ;-)
