Benchmade pricing seems to have changed

FWIW, the only comparison I was making between BM and CRK is that they both endeavor to enforce MAAP pricing. CRK MAAP pricing IS MSRP. At least BM gives wiggle room between MSRP and MAAP.

Call me a fanboy, which I probably am, but I still think that this is a matter of an American manufacturer looking out for American retailers. I consider us lucky to have been able to get BM's at the deep online discounts that we've enjoyed for a long time, but I understand BM's drive as well.

On another note, don't we all have enough BM's currently anyway? :) Kidding, as I am completely onboard with getting a bargain.

Absolutely wrong (unless BM is a limited partnership or LLC) - private corporations have stockholders, and you can probably guess who owns the largest stake in Benchmade.

yeah, that's right, and they are greedy, evil, and out to hurt their customers, along with their employees:rolleyes:

im sorry but i must be pretty slow. please explain how benchmade is a publicly traded company that has stockholders? how do you purchase benchmade stock?

Privately held corporations may not be publicly traded but they still have shareholders or even a single shareholder. One reason a business may incorporate is so that the company becomes its own legal entity which takes the liability off its owners/shareholders.

I really like my BM knives but an $85 standard mini grip isn't going to be a big seller imho. All that will happen is online retail sales will likely slow way down with a 30% increase to the consumer.

I have several Benchmades (though not even in the ballpark of some on here) and I have bought exactly two online. It's not that I've enjoyed paying more in a physical store, it's that when I buy a knife I'd like to hold it first when possible. I'm lucky in that I have two stores in town that sell at MAP; one is often slightly below or has regular sales. The only way I'd likely stop buying BM altogether is if they went to MSRP across the board and probably wouldn't stop altogether then. Even at the discounted price, it can be argued that other brands have better value per dollar. BUT, I buy Benchmade because I love them and because they float my boat. If I just wanted a tool at a cheap price, I'd use a Gerber or an Xacto.

Are you guys ready to run out of gas and go down for the count? I'm visualizing a boxer shadow boxing while profusely sweating, huffing and puffing until exhaustion. :)

What does this contribute to the discussion? If you're tired of seeing the contents of this thread you don't have to click on it.

Need another cup of coffee, eh! My statement contributed as much as repeating the same statements over, and over, and over. Lighten up and you will live longer.

All corporations have stockholders, whether public or private. Benchmade is an Oregon corporation. Benchmade isn't publicly traded so if you want to buy some, you should talk to Les de Asis, but you'll probably have to pay MSRP. ;)

Shhh...let 'em talk long as they want. While they're all busy here I'm getting the last of the great deals STILL available.:D

If I had the money, I would have already cleaned up. I "need" another Rift, an Adamas, a Bone Collector, a Bushcrafter, a mini-Presidio, a Sequel, a H-D Hardtail (if I can find one), a Rift or Adamas for my oldest son, an Adamas and a Bushcrafter for my 2nd son, a 51 and 32 Morpho balisongs, a Auto Rift...

As it is, I need some trail cameras, a feeder, and some tree stands and larger ground blinds, and new arrows more than I "need" more knives -- and I don't have the money for any of it.

I picked up a couple extra Contegos before the price went up. Great knife great price with the 5% off. This whole pricing issue doesn't bother me too much. I have enough BM knives to last my lifetime and the lifetime of my 2 boys...and their kids.

You speak the language of love, Sir. Time for me to get back in the woods too with my stick and string.

I hope you realize that we all don't have 87 brand new BM knives stockpiled away in a hidden closet somewhere?

I have only one and was going to buy more but not now..

I thought the quality was on par with the old prices but the new prices? I'll pass..

Well, good for you. I have 4, two of which I just bought with borrowed money. (I'll pay back in a few weeks, no intrest.)

Won't the tech change by the time your kids have kids? (Did we have M4 and Axis locks in the 1920s?)

Online dealers aren't American companies? And you might have enough Benchmades, (you joined the Forum before I was born) but I only started collecting knives this spring and I have 4 BMs. See my post above.

Don't come to this thread and people won't get angy at you. It sounds like you have a million dollars. Good for you. I am a 13 year old an I make money petsiting for $15/hour, but only when somone goes out of town.

spydercobenchmadekai,
Since I have no way of knowing your real age, I will take you at your word that you are thirteen years-old. In your last three posts you seem to be angry about others having enough money to buy a knife/knives that they like. You are the only one who has broached this topic, I certainly don't have, nor will I ever have a million dollars ;). You must remember all of us were also thirteen years old and had jobs just like you and had to save for something we wanted. It can be frustrating, and in the future when you have moved into adulthood, have a regular job that gives you a steady income you will still have to save to buy the knives you want.

Enjoy the time you have now, because when you are older you must also save for other things like rent/mortgage, utilities, food, clothes, gas money, car payments, health/vehicle/life insurance, and lets not forget local/state/federal taxes on that paycheck too. There is more, but I believe you get the point. Relax and enjoy your younger years while you can, they will be gone sooner than you realize.

P.S. $15/hour for petsitting is a lot of money, the teenage girls who babysat me received $5.00/hour and I bet they would have traded me for a pet without hesitation. :)

At your age, I wasn't allowed to have a knife, or anything else much fun for a boy. So look at it that way, you're doing pretty good at 13 if you had one Benchmade. A value that is so important growing up is to not envey others possessions. Glad you're working at your age, it's a good lesson about value and worth in your spending decisions. I would caution you to not borrow unless it's needed to pay the bills.

Yep, I'm ancient. My Son is 13. It's a golden age. I'm glad to see young folks interested in knives. Hang around, I guarantee you'll learn something. I do just about every time I log in here. Good folks and great info. :)
