Benchmade pricing seems to have changed

I wonder if online retailers will be concerned having money tried up in merchandise that might not sell very fast with the new price fixing agreement ?

spydercobenchmadekai,

Just think, if your just starting your collection now, in 20 years the knives you have today will be the vintage, long discontinued highly sought after gem's comparable to what some of the members here have today.

I think it's fantastic you have developed your interest so young and able threw your own work able to get a knife or two from time to time.

Keep up the good work and best of luck!

I also agree though, not a good idea to borrow money to buy knives or anything else really at this point. Best to wait and save until you have enough for what you want. Not only will you appreciate it that much more that way but owning money should always be avoided at all costs. Now and in the future.

Again, glad to see you here and keep up the good work!

Today I received my 707-1201 “Limited Edition” Sequel that cost $214.00, the blade is not centered and the blade's edge has an uneven grind that is twice as high on one side as the other. If Benchmade wants to increase their price 30% there had better be an improvement in quality control or this could be my last purchase from them. I know I can send it back, or have Benchmade fix it like it should have been but it will be a "user" so it's not worth the time and shipping costs, very disappointing.

It looks to me like the finance folks are running things for the moment and not the knife folks.

I will wait and see how this pans out.All my BM purchases are on hold for the time being.I am sure there will be some Spyderco sprints and ZT LE models that I will purchase in 2014.I may purchase other USA made brands instead of Benchmade in 2014.I am interested to see how KW handles this going forward.Time will tell and I will speak with my wallet.

This is good advice for anyone collecting anything. +1000!

Agreed. While everything I've sent back under 'FIX IT PLEASE' has come back done so, there are too many examples of off-side, un-centered, tooling marks included - to virtually all of us. This, despite the product being made from a famous production company on the "A" list, should not be happening. Where's the Q&A more common to years past, where knives were taken out of the box and simply kept?

I wonder how much Quota and pressure to produce in numbers affects the thinking of the mechs making these?

Thanks! What I meant is that I use my parent's credit card (with their permission) for the online purchases (I don't have my own, duh) and then pay them back with cash. I always have a plan before I buy (this job = x$ minus 50% saving can be divided by x knives).

Won't the tech change by the time your kids have kids? (Did we have M4 and Axis locks in the 1920s?)

No M4, but we did have Buck, Case and Victorinox knives and people still use and carry those.

The lockback style knife has been around since the 15 century and are still used today. So Yes, the tech may change over the years but the axis lock will be around longer than the both of us.

spydercobenchmadekai , good that you work for your knife money. Not only do you appreciate it more but you also look for the value in what you're purchasing. For example,I was pleased with the mini grip at $65. I'm not thinking the same molded plastic mini grip knife is worth $85.

You know - it could just be my imagination, but it seem to notice these type of threads recurring with greater frequency than they used to.

The Griptillian I was looking at went up overnight but I managed to pick up a 300 Axis Flipper for $111 shipped from another source. Not sure how long that BM25 discount code will last though.

That's why.......I could long into bladeHQ and get the sequel for 100$, mini griptilian for 65$ and a Osborne design for 136$. But since a couple weeks or so I have no longer been able to do so.

You'll love the Axis flipper. I got one for $111 too, and it is a great knife.

I sure hope so, it's one of few folders I've spent that kind of money on. Now if only I could find an all black Bedlam for a decent price my Christmas shopping for myself will be done...hate when they discontinue a nice knife like that :(

Most people don't like it, but for me, it is the perfect combination of flipping ease, strong Axis lock, beautiful Blue/Black G10 scales, quality steel, and great ergos. It is a tiny bit smaller in all directions than a ZT350, but it feels a lot lighter.

I like that one, and was eyeballing it when it came out in that color. The designer, custom maker Butch Ball, lives just down the road a bit from me. I hope to tour his shop sometime soon. Congrats on a fine knife!

Glad you like it. Professor just give me a ring if you want to visit.Had a purveyor pick up a order yesterday who is also a benchmade dealer and we discussed this thread. He said BM is trying to level the playing field as far as advertising prices but it never hurts to make an OFFER.;)
