Hi everybody! I just received my Ritter MK1 from Aeromedix and am very disappointed. The blade is completely off-center (sometimes rubbing the inner handle area and the Axis lock sticks when operated by my right thumb to the point I need to use both sides to unlock. I contacted Benchmade Repairs and they replied that they are up to 18 days turnaround on knife repairs right now. Are they having a rush on repairs and returns or is this normal service? My knife will be gone approximately 4 weeks including shipping time. Is this par for the course?

Steve

I am sorry to hear that!! My Ritter Mini-grip is rock solid, perfectly centered..... I would send it back.

I just wanted to make sure before you sent it off.

I sent a knife in for washers and clip replacement maybe a few months ago. Turnaround was a few weeks. I don't think that it will be a full 4 weeks unless you live outside of the United States. I remember reading about Benchmade launching some advertising campaigns lately. If their sales are up then their repair time may be up. That time frame sounds like what I experienced.

Why should you have to deal with repair.. the store who sold you it, sold you defective merchandise and they should replace it.

Aeromedix are not knife specialists and they just sent me a knife that was sent to them by Benchmade. Maybe their entire stock is defective and they don't know it. I think I'll take my chances by sending it back to the source and hope for the best.

BM has had the best QC next to Victorinox of all the brands I've tried. Sorry to hear about those issues. I really hate when I'm all excited about a knife and it comes messed up.

I bought a new 154CM Grip from rei.com and the axis seems to stick a bit too. I find this is only when I snap it open really fast, it locks up tight and I have to slide it down from both sides.

Although, I don't really mind because I've been opening/closing the knife by using only the axis lock (grab both sides and SNAP!). It's twice as fast as when I quick draw my Leek. :-p

I have a few Benchmade knifes and like them alot so I'm not really worried about sending it back and getting it fixed. I have also read plenty of threads about Benchmade and their service. I think I just wanted to rant a little because the 5 day wait for the knife from Aeromedix sucked and I know this 3-4 week wait is really going to suck.:(

my recomendation is that uou send it to benchmade, they have a great reputation for making things right, les de asis the president/owner lives 2 doors doun from my father and ive had the privelege of talking with him, ive never met a man that has care so much about the quality of his product and the satisfaction of his costomers, you are in good hands if you deal with benchmade! :)

good luck!

My MK1 was nearly perfect when I got it. At first I had a little sticking as well and I re-sharpened it,but it seems to have sorted itself out. I would actually contact Aeromedix first and see about simply getting a new one. From my experience so far with them and with Doug Ritter's comments on this forum, they seem like a great company who stand behind what they sell. Worth a shot anyway . . .

edit: sorry double post

All my previous Benchmade knives were just about perfect in fit and finish ('cept the rather rough edge grinds but that seems to be the norm :p). But my recently purchased 710D2 is off by a good amount. The tip of the blade is actually bent to the right a bit if you're viewing the knife closed tip down. The G10 backing material isn't flush with the SS liners. One of the SS liners are "chipped" and isn't smooth.

I'm planning to call Benchmade today. I mean, shit happens. I don't expect perfection all the time (unless it's a custom). :D

I am very sorry you appear to have gotten a less than perfect RSK. No need to send it in to Benchmade for repair. Please contact Aeromedix and they will make it right.

Steve:

The one company I have never had any trouble with was Benchmade. Their knives came to me flawlessly and stayed that way since I've had them. Besides BM's only my SAK's have come flawless and stayed that way.

To me that is unacceptable. I'd return it to the place I bought it from and ask for a replacement. BM should be able to replace the knife in a short time rather than inconvenience the customer over a new knife.

If they won't send it to the dealer and let him mess with the delay or getting it replaced.

+ 1 to that.

I've had problems with knives from every other knife company except Benchmade. They are amazing when it comes to a production knives and their fit and finish.
