Benchmade Quality Control

I got it confused with the other BM QC thread on the front page, which is about a 710.

So change "710" to "Ritter Grip". Same point.

That's why I asked.

Regardless, he wasn't referring to the knives when he said "garbage."

Aeromedix are not knife specialists and they just sent me a knife that was sent to them by Benchmade.
Totally unacceptable. Retailers aren't just people who send to you what's sent to them with a mark-up for them. Part of that mark-up is to make you giddy with satisfaction and to take care of little problems like that for you. Otherwise, why even have retailers? I recommend you contact them and ask for a replacement ASAP. Let them wait eight weeks or better, get a replacement.

Aeromedix has replied on this forum that they will make things right. Call them ask that they inspect and check the new knife before sending it out and send your defective one back.

I see no problem here - you are dealing with reputable people here: Doug Ritter, Aeromedix, and Benchmade. All appear to want to make you happy.

DigDeep - I don't agree with your comment for the following reasons.

I think you missed the point of the original question posed by the unhappy consumer.

It concerned BM quality control, not their customer service to fix a problem that should never have happened in the first place if someone had done a minimal job of testing the knife before boxing it up and shipping it to the final consumer who is now faced with having to truck to the post office burning up $3/gal gas, stand in line, box the knife up, pay postage, wait forever to get it back, etc. etc.

Nobody needs this kind of "customer service".

Saying "Stuff happens" is a cop-out for lousy quality control.

Now if the consumer was throwing it at the local oak tree to see how it sticks than it is his problem and he should incurr the consequences of his actions. But, when paying hundreds of dollars for something that you can't fondle before forking over the bucks, you would hope the seller would do what you would do if you were there in person. That is to take a quick peek and a little test to be sure the product is up to snuff. It would save the seller alot of time and hassle also.

Lately, I'm seeing more and more posts about poor quality control at Benchmade.

I don't care if they have a lifetime warranty.

This bothers me because I own several of their knives and would hate to see their reputation sullied by bad public relations and complaints like this.

I personally never ever want to be bothered by having to send a knife back. Ever. For any reason. Unless I'm the one who busted it and then I will pay to get it fixed (or buy a new one).

Agree?

As I have mentioned bedfore, if for any reason any customer has a problem with a Ritter Benchmade Knife, we will be happy and eager to either exchange it or refund your full purschase price.

I am not sure I can be more clear or do more than that! If there is, please let me know and we will try to do it.

Thanks.

I recently found your excellent forum and proceeded to buy 4 knives,Benchmade Grip d2, Nimravis fixed blade, both were flawless. The next was a Spyderco Endura 4 it had a small flaw on the tang it seems to be similar to a burn, which took me 20 minutes to dress out with my diamond stones, the rest of the knife is great. The last was a Bark River upland special which had one edge of the swedge which wasnt blended in properly,so back to the stones, the rest of the knife is great. So it seems that as i have read in your threads that production knives arent always perfect. By the way my EDC for the past 6 years has been a Kershaw Blackout which has been perfect, so in my experence Benchmade and Kershaw have been the best out of the box knives. Have a good one.

This sounds like two yentas bickering on a park bench!

Doug Ritter and Brent Blue did everything but bend over for ya.... send it back, they'll replace it. Occasionally, one or two out of thousands slips through with poor QC. C'mon....

I’ve ordered several knives from Aeromedix.
I only had a problem with one, not a Benchmade.

Aeromedix made it right, no questions asked.

Did anybody notice this thread is 3 years old? Anyway, Ive owned quite a few BMs and they have all had outstanding fit and finish. The only problem I ever had was an uneven grind on a red class, but I was a red class so I wasn't expecting much.
