I prefer the Duke if it between these 3. The Bravo is almost a tie, depending on usage. The BJ needs the heel removed. and then sanded smooth.

Kinda guessed that might be the case. The Duke looks like a stellar knife.

Bob, thanks for sharing. That Lum is outstanding.

Brian, nice comparison pic. I appreciate your honest feedback on the ergos. No surprise to see you prefer the handle made by Nathan the most. Not surprised by the comment on the Busse yet. I am yet to see one that looks like it was made to use rather than made for a specific aesthetic appeal.

Don't lynch me for that.

Have you checked out the Ergo line?

Mean Street Ergo, Steel Heart Ergo, Battle Mistress Ergo. I haven't tried any of the new ones but people are saying they are very comfortable.

I don't think they are ALL made for specific aesthetic appeal, some, maybe but most have function in mind. Some could be much better with a bit of tuning however. Still love em!

You are right, I generalized and that is never accurate. I was trying to say they have a recognizable aesthetic that is kinda like their trademark. Like the Talon thing.

To answer your question, honestly, no. I have stopped following them. It was one of those situations where after a long wait, and getting several in hand my expectations were going to be hard to meet. Like many other brands I no longer own or follow. I have jumped all over the place looking for the right blend of performance, design, material selection, availability and price. Now that I have found a brand that exceeds my expectations I have stopped looking around at what else is going on around the industry.

At the end of the day, I am glad to see they are focusing more on the ergos. I know they have a specific appeal, like so many other brands and am happy they have success and the loyal fans are happy there.

Well said. I'm completely with you on the part I put in bold but I still check out what everyone else is making, always enjoy looking at the new products and designs people come up with

I agree with keeping up with the industry, but when spare time gets limited, I have to cut back some where! I used to check the customs forum every day, and lurk around the exchange continuously.

Usually if something is pretty cool, it gets mentioned and I take the time to check it out though even if it means my son on my lap while he gets his daily episode of Paw Patrol on one monitor and I read up on something.

Lorien-

Several years ago I purchased a piece made by Yoshindo Yoshihara. It had originally been purchased directly from YY by Bob Lum. After Bob died, his wife sold it, and I was the lucky one who bought it. The sale included letter from Mrs. Lum, an image of YY and Bob Lum, holding the piece. It was inscribed by YY to Bob on the exterior.

Now, wouldn't you rather have that one than this one? Only problem - I traded it off. Man, it goes into the "DUMBASS BETZNER" category of knives I should have kept forever. As I recall, I scanned it and sent the scan to STeven who knew someone who could translate it, which was done. Damn, anything I ever get again by Bob will remain with me forever.

One of the very few knife related regrets I have was not buying a blade from Bob Lum when I was able to meet him at the Solvang Knife Show in the early eighties. I was a poor starving student going to nearby Cal Poly. It was pretty early in my knife addiction and I really didn't know much about the custom knife world. Bob had a number of gorgeous blades on his table including a pair of beautiful Chinese styled swords. Even though by today's standards, they were very inexpensive for what they were, and I could have put them on a credit card, the debt for a poor student working part time for minimum wage was a bit too much for me to fathom. I still have that meeting etched in my memory. Mike

Here is a new name to knives most won't recognize. It is a brand being resurrected by the Hanson guys (including DHIII) to put something new into their primary lines. This one fits in nicely right here, because it is a mean cleaver (chopper by any other name) (10" blade), with gorgeous wood (Missouri Black Walnut):
