Looking forward to getting my first CPK, hoping to add it to my favorites.

I hosted a camping trip this past weekend with a couple fellow knife enthusiasts, so we made a "Tree of Knife".
That is one of the cooler displays of knives I've ever seen, actually. It just shows that it doesn't take owning high end knives to have get great enjoyment out of and have fun with them! Way cool display!

I suppose it depends on what you would define as high end, but there are a lot of what I consider to be expensive knives there. Zmb has a ton of great knives.

Thanks, I'm glad that you like the pic. I think that high end in the knife world is somewhat of a relative term, as it can be defined it as expensive or of superior quality. These are certainly not show knives, they are predominately Busse's in fact, but they are almost all made for heavy use and the steel is of superior quality. For me personally what dictates a high end fixed blade is something I can use exceedingly hard with minimal concern of catastrophic failure. I have not added up the total value of the knives in the tree, but for the most part they each fall into the $200 - $2,200 range, so the tree essentially has the equivalent of a nice car on it. Please don't take this post as me being angry at your comment because I'm not, I'm just trying to show a differing opinion about what high end is.

To both Justin and zmbhntr. The words "high end" have absolutely nothing to do with the point I was trying to make. "Great enjoyment and fun" were meant to be the operative words here. A compliment was meant to be given. Just because I post a bunch of "higher end" knives alot, please don't think I am comparing anything with anything. Brought back memories of earlier days when I went camping every week, or, more or less, for entire years.

In my mind, as I wrote this compliment, I wasn't even thinking numerically. I just thought it was one of the coolest pics I'd seen of knives and was expressing that whatever the costs, it doesn't really matter.

Hey, zmbntr, as I read your last sentence again just now, I did an about face, because I think I was beginning think maybe you were, actually, a bit bothered by my post. Thanks for the comment. What we all need to do is think of knives, not age, irrespective of what my generation has screwed so many of you out of, with student loans, etc and shit like that. I post those "pretty" non-CPKs JUST for anyone who wants to see what else goes on in the knife world. I am also here if anyone ever wants some questions about makers, non-steel questions, etc. Use me as a resource. And again, thanks for that last sentence!

Bob

I also absolutely love the Fiddleback Production Camp Knife.

^^^ that last photo, the Fiddleback... Those handles and the hardware looks familiar but I can't exactly recall where else I've seen something in close resemblance. Hmmm!

Amazing how the knife world comes together isn't it?! :)

Fiddleback huh. What else do you have from Andy?

Just production models Justin. You know me, always wailing on stuff. Can't bring myself to do that with his customs. I can sure appreciate them though, and lurk over there a little to follow along.

I looked at the camp knife more than once as well Dave. I figure it's the one piece of kit I could use size wise, but always found fault with that 6"~ length I figured could be my one knife size. Like the GSO for example which I've tried I guess 3 or 4 of in that size.

I always end up with a 4"~ or so then something much bigger. Usually ends up being a small forest axe.

Holding out hope the Fluffer is the answer! This years main users will be the FK and the LC. Performace wise, just can't find anything that can beat them.

I've ordered a custom sheath for the LC, and am waiting on the FK.

I'm pretty much of the same mind with what you expressed above, Justin. Actually, that camp knife and the lionsteel m7 (unless I'm just forgetting something) are about the only 6"-range blades I've got for most of the reasons you mentioned. The verdict is still out on the M7, but the Fiddleback is a keeper for sure.

From the online pictures, I wasn't sure I'd like the camp knife either. I mean, when you look at it, that's a big handle. But with use, that's the thing that I love about it most, it's so useful in a wide range of grips. And it packs like a dream with a dangler. Plus the CPK connection that I didn't know when I bought it, but find cool now  Anyway, my $.02

I've seen in past responses by the Boss that powers-that-be does mind discussing what can be construed as trade or commercial none disclosure based information. In other words what happens between two companies, shall remain in between those entities only :)

Nicely done.

If you don't mind me asking, what is the connection between CPK and Fiddleback Forge?

Hi bud. It's been talked about here before, and Nathan has said that he doesn't discuss it but that he's not obligated by what other folks discuss, so I think it's all good. But what I meant by that was that CPK produces the scales for the production line of FF blades. I just think that connection is cool since they're both great makers. Kinda like telling them both 'cheers' when buying one of the production models, at least that's the way I see it. :)

I meant to respond to this above and got sidetracked (that's easy for me ;) ) I can't find anything that beats the field knife in its size either. Although it's fun to keep trying new steel and learning. But Nathan and Jo definitely have something special here, which is readily apparent by their ever-growing following.

I always wanted a Battle Mistress. Ended up with a Bushwhacker Mistress, but it was pretty tough to use due to the obtuse bevel angles. It was like hitting stuff with a cold chisel. My local knife maker buddy, Stuart, knocked the primary bevel down substantially and I'm looking forward to spending some quality time with it soon. Definitely have a soft spot for Busse, although I've only ever owned one.
