I got a set of these steak knives as a gift from the parents. I had mentioned that I was looking for some straight edge real antler steak knives. They found these new old stock still in the box. I did a quick google search of the brand and it seems like they went out of business between the 50’s and 60’s. So they may have been sitting in a box for 60 years. I’ve been using them. I’m not sure about the story of the brand, that was just a quick google search, so please correct me if you know anything about it. They do have a swedge on one side and hollow grind on both.

Ok Pàdruig Pàdruig , a little axe show and tell. This is my small collection of handmade axes and it started with the Liam Hoffman in the middle when they were easy to order through an email to Liam’s mom, a Small Campers Axe (the name may have changed now), it’s a little 1.5lb head on a 15” handle. The second axe I got is the bearded pack axe 2nd from the right, it’s made by Pawel Surdel and it’s a 1.85lb head on a 19” handle. I’ve carried that one a lot and have split a lot of wood with it, the finish barely shows it though, it always wipes pretty clean when I’m done.

The two on the outside are Nils Ogren Small “Emtervik” axes, his version of a small Swedish forest axe, 2lb heads roughly on 19.5“ handles, the standard Swedish forest axe pattern are the center two flanking the LH, both made by Nils as well, those are 2.5lb heads on 25” handles. Then there’s the bearded and straight handled ”Fryken” axe which is a 2.5lb head on a handle that is pretty close to 21”, it’s a beast in the hand!

What a superb collection! Nils Ogren's work looks awesome. His forest axes definitely make me thing of the GBs and Wetterlings out there. How does the LH live up to the hype?

Nils seems pretty damn talented for his age, I think he’s still under 30 so he gives me that LH vibe of a hungry man pounding steel all day to make people happy, obviously buying one wasn‘t enough lol. That little Hoffman axe went on a quite a few camping trips and it works great due to that large handle, you can really hit it hard. I do a lot of batoning now with the axes, I’ve hit too many rocks and dirt splitting kindling by swinging lol. That said, I prefer a little more head weight and handle so that 19” and 2lb head range really stands out for me when choosing a packable solution.

I haven't used the larger Forest axes yet, just haven’t had a need!

You and I are in the same boat when it comes to that sweet spot for packing - 2(ish) lb head with a 19-21" handle.

I'm digging all the young talent that's starting to make themselves known - makes for a promising future. I think the fella who made these is only 19 and though I've only used the Lapp-style Hunter so far, they are all really well made.
