I have a hard time finding anything I prefer more than a CPK these days. They're just so good.

I love the looks of the ferox that ferider ferider posted, but I'm just not a big fan of cpm154.

The meatcrafter looks interesting, but again, it boils down to steel choices.

You are missing out, I like CPM154: a nice compromise of toughness and edge retention, much like S35VN, but - for me - easier to sharpen. And once a custom maker has dialed in a steel, and likes to use it, I trust them .... similar to me liking AEB-L from Nathan and Paul.

Chris makes the Ferox in tool steel, too, cheaper and easier to get if that's an option ....

That's fair. I've used plenty of cpm154, but not with a custom heat treat. Since stainless isn't a big concern for me, cpm-154 doesn't seem to offer anything I need that d3v doesn't cover.

I don't collect knives and I don't want to have very many laying around, I tend to be picky and uncompromising. It's deliberate though. Nothing wrong with collecting, it's just not for me.

Even with CPKs, I've sold everything that isn't exactly what I need. Down to my staples now. My only regret is getting rid of my DEK1 in d3v because I'd prefer it over the magnacut version I'm using now. Live and learn.
