been spending some quality time with my good friend Johnny Canuckhuri. We get along great. I really like this guy.

The last time I went to the Blade Show in Atlanta was 2019. One of the last booths I hit was the Spyderco display to handle a number of models I was interested in but had only seen in photos.

One model that really impressed me with how good it felt in hand was the Proficient in CPM S90V with thick sculpted carbon fiber scales. I was very tempted to get one, but my remaining cash was too low. Since it was in production at the time, I decided to wait and pick one up “later.” By the time later came around, the Proficient was out of production and sold out everywhere. I have been looking for one ever since on the secondary market.

My patience and luck finally paid off a couple months ago. It felt like reconnecting with an old friend when it arrived. The blade length is about 1/2” shorter than the DEK 1 and the steel thickness is .137” at the spine with a full flat grind and a nice sharp edge. Taichung’s fit & finish is excellent as always. The ambidextrous leather that comes with it is quite serviceable. Overall I am very pleased with the find.
