Just curious to see what you guys think.

What does you think the best edc knife for less than 50 or close to the it is and why?

The answer depends on what you want it for. If you want a big knife, the Enlan el-01 is hard to beat under $50, and you could get 2 of them.

Kershaw Skyline: Light, great slicer, good steel, tip-up/tip-down carry, thin, etc.
Kershaw Cryo: Rick Hinderer design, 8Cr13MoV steel takes a razor edge, deep-carry clip, stout but still very carry friendly
Kershaw Chill: RJ Martin design, great flipper, very thin, very sharp (8Cr13MoV blade steel), very light, can't beat it for $20

Ontario RAT Model 1 or Model 2 depending on whether you prefer large or small. As to the why, they are near perfect and extremely affordable so you don't have to worry about beating on em, that basically makes em perfect for edc imo.

Kershaws: pretty much any of them, but the more popular ones are skyline, leek, cryo, blur to name a few
ka-bar dozier
SAK's (swiss army knives)
Rough Rider's traditional slipjoints, pick a pattern you like and you can pick up one for around $10 give or take a few bucks

The list goes on for quite awhile, tell us what you like and we can make better recommendations if your looking for a knife.

For me all my knives are sub $30 and I am currently switching from a Ka-bar dozier, kershaw cryo, rough rider canoe depending on what I want to carry for the day.

My opinion:

1. Gerber instant, light sleek great blade shape. Very well made. 40

2 kershaw funxion, great opening glass breaker and strap cutter really come I handy 40

3 gerber outrigger, small light and extremely comfortable. 40

4. Kershaw leek. Light elegant great knife. 40

I'm all in for the Ontario RAT on this one. It's an amazing knife for about $30 shipped. I like the AUS-8 steel they use in it A LOT better than the 8Cr13MoV Kershaw is using too.

If you like a 3-1/2" blade with a flipper the Kershaw Tremor is hard to beat. It can be had well below your price ceiling.

EDC a fixed blade! Becker BK11 or BK14!

Folder----Spyderco tenacious is a good value

Smoothest Action: CRKT Ripple or Swindle

Spring Assisted: Pretty much anything Kershaw

Made in America: Buck Vantage (many models in the series)

Work Horse: Spyderco Tenacious or Ontario RAT

Best Steel: Spyderco Dragonfly in VG-10 or Ladybug in ZDP-189 (might be a pain if you don't enjoy sharpening)

I know I would have more fun with two $25 knives over one $50 knife :D

I love my cold steel voyager.

Spyderco Tenacious.

Built nicely well, decent steel, and actually comfortable in the hand.

A bit small though.

Victorinox SAK - $15-$30 for common 2 and 3 layer models - Excellent utility and fantastic overall value.

Ontario RAT-1 - ~$30 - Fairly beefy knife. Probably about as good as it gets for a hefty, robust folder at this price point.

Kershaw Skyline - ~$35 - Thin & light. Carries almost unnoticeable in pocket. Excellent slicer. Addictive to flip open and closed repeatedly. ;)

Kershaw Leek - ~$40 - Thin & light. Unnoticeable in pocket. Looks thin and delicate, but is actually quite tough. Composite blade version is ~$60, but well worth it.

Kershaw Blur - ~$55 - Fairly beefy knife, but still carries comfortably. Very comfortable in hand. One of the most gratifying assisted-opening mechanisms if you find yourself just incessantly opening and closing the blade. ;)

Spyderco Delica - ~$55 - Thin & light. Excellent ergos. Longer handle (good for comfort while handling/cutting, but also takes up a bit more pocket space).

Benchmade Mini-Griptilian - ~$60 - Compact and light. Carries comfortably in pocket. Good ergos. Axis lock.
