As far as my hands go, I would elect the Busse Basic 9. I am not sure how many of you out there have ever held or used this older knife, but it seems to be just the right length for the great majority of jobs in the field. The balance, at least to me, seems about perfect from the vast array of knives that I've held over the changing of the seasons. And yes, I even favor the Basic nine over the excellent 1311 for a true all-rounder. The thing is, the 1311 could be a super all-rounder in the right hands. Hands and skill levels coupled with visual acuity are not the same for all persons...I have personally witnessed some amazing skinning with an old Buck 119 in the hands of a veteran hunter and a fellow in Roatan would could slice and dice with an 18 inch machete like none I have ever seen. There is some 'talent' associated with using cutlery in an efficient, safe fashion. Mileage may vary!
Back in the day if I had the benefit of better judgement, I would have put in my order for two of these fine Basic 9 specimens. When I received my knife from Busse, it was a beauty. I was busy with a new job and had to put the knife up for about three months before I got to test her out.
Still to this day, I remember when I put her through the paces. I still like the design and feel. There have been more than a few hunters that asked if I'd sell her for a handsome price. They all were sent packing with nary an item in their mits.
