best bang for your buck?

My vote goes to the Kabar Dozier Folding Hunter....Great knife, great value. Careful shopping can yield you one for < $20.

Kershaw OD-1
Under $40 at your local WalMart.

I have several other Kershaws (Skyline, Tyrade, Ener-g, etc) but this one is in my pocket all the time.

More of the same...

Walmart Buck 110 and Buck 119
The Victorinox SAK line
Case "Working" line

All good, functional knives that you can pick up in the $20 to $40 range. There are other reasonably priced, good knives out there, but the above are IMO the best value for the $.

Many Kershaw Blems are great knives for the price and really have nothing wrong with them. Check out the For Sale by Dealers, there's a guy there selling them.

A lot of great suggestions already. I'll just say anything from Kershaw these days (and for quite a while now). The Spyderco Native is the most useful and most used knife I own now even though I haven't had it long. Also as already mentioned the Tenacious is inexpensive and great bang for the buck.

Since the OP did not say it had to be cheap bang for the buck then any of the Zero Tolerance knives. I like my 300 and 301 more than any of my other folders if I was forced to pick. I like them more than some knives that cost more than twice as much.

I would have to include CS GI Tanto. For the price, it is bullet proof. If they made it in a different blade profile (ie clip point, or drop point, or spear point etc) it would be a much more useful all around knife.

I think I paid $21 for mine. Took the top guard off. I am thinking about using mine for practice on full convex grinding with my little belt sander. Already used the edge for sharpening practice.

Boker Trance for a folder and Moras for f/b, especially the Mora 2000. Great, great knives.

In the realm of past great buys, the USA Old Timers were the King of bang-for-your-buck. Best knife buys ever.

my contant companion for 10 years has been a leatherman wave.

the number of widely varied situations and hassles that thing has solved for me probably make it the best value for money anything i own.

I have to say Victorinox knives have been very consistent. They have quite good quailty control and the price and availability are hard to beat.

Cheers,
Shane
