I've only seen 4 concerts; New Guns N' Roses, the White Stripes, The Distillers, and Velvet Revolver. The Distillers (a not quite underground, not quite popular punk band) and Velvet Revolver (the old GNR band with Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots on vocals) were definitely the best ones. What are the best concerts you've seen?

Aerosmith - Permanent Vacation Tour

Metallica - Pick one. They all rocked.

Iron Maiden - Again, they all rocked.

Alice In Chains - Facelift Tour

Soundgarden - Super Unknown Tour

Pearl Jam - Ten Tour

The Cult - Forgot which tour.

GNR

Dio - Sacred Heart Tour

Ozzy

Monsters of Rock 1989

Slayer

Megadeth - Peace Sells Tour

Motley Crue

Korn

Danzig

This is the short list. I've seen so many bands since 1986 that I forgot half of them.

I've been to a few concerts in my 42 years. Some that stand out are:

CSN in 1994

Allman Brothers in 1995

ZZ Top (twice in mid-90s)

B. B. King/Buddy Guy/Little Feat/Dr. John in 1998

James Taylor in 1991

Doobie Brothers/Joe Walsh in 1993

Eric Clapton in 1995/1998/2004

Of these the '95 Clapton concert was by far the best concert I have ever seen and likely will ever see. This was during his "Nothing But The Blues" tour to support his CD "From the Cradle". The concert was at the Dean Smith Dome in Chapel Hill and my Wife and I were on the second row (dead center). We could count EC's nose hairs. He was on fire that night and played with an incredible level of passion, not to mention unparalleled virtuosity. I'll never forget that night.

Back in the late 60's early 70's I used to work security at a lot of the major concerts in the NYC area I saw some amazing groups.

You asked for the best though, for me that would have to be Crosby, Stills & Nash at an outdoor stadium in New Jersey the night Nixon resigned.

"Tin soldiers and Nixon's coming....we're finally on our own..."
The sky exploded with fireworks and the crowd went crazy.

#2 has to be the Who at Forest Hills the night they introduced the "Who's Next?" album. Once again outdoors, the show had to be posponed because of a thunder storm. Roger Daltry announced the show would go on once they were sure they wouldn't get electrocuded. Nobody left we all just sat their in the rain. me and the folks I was with dropped some acid to help pass the time. I was really wacked by the time the music started. When the Who did "Behind Blue Eyes" I could actually feel my brain melt and run out my ears. Ahhhh the good old days. :D

The Who. Second or third concert they played Tommy at in the US. Late 1969 or early 1970. They played earlier songs for their first set. Then all of Tommy. They came back for several encores.

SRV on an Aircraft Carrier at Alameda Naval Station c.1985-86 (a show for Navy Personell and their friends and family)

RHCP, Nirvana and Pearl Jam at the Cow Palace, New Years Eve 1991 (three great bands at the height of their powers)

The Who and The Clash, late spring of 1982(?) (two of the greatest bands ever)

Lalapalooza II at Shoreline Amphatheater, 1992 (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, RHCP)

Sonic Youth and Nirvana, Hamburg, Germany, Summer 1991 (a few months before Nevermind came out)

Metallica, The Stone in San Francisco, Spring 1983 (first concert they played with Kirk Hammet on guitar)

The Pixies, The Warfield, 1992 (farewell tour)

Liz Phair, The Warfield, 1993 (very sexy)

Pearl Jam and Mike Watt, Slims, San Francisco, 1993 (I operated the lighting for the show)

Talking Heads, Oakland Arena, 1983 (Stop Making Sence tour)

My first concert ever was the Ramones, playing at the local college. Wish I'd bought a shirt (and still had it 25 years later). Ears rang for three days!:D

My brother and I saw Suicidal Tendencies opening for Queensryche in Rochester, then drove to Buffalo and spent the night at my uncle's house. Next night, saw the very same show at the Aud in Buffalo. (RIP, Aud)

Judas Priest on the Turbo tour with the giant robot coming up outta the stage was killer.

Dicovered what a mosh pit was (from the inside! during a Henry Rollins/ Jane's Addiction concert)

Saw three stops of the And Justice for All, Metallica tour.

Caught Ozzie, with Metallica opening (with the original line up)

Probably my all time favorite show was Infectious Grooves opening up for Suicidal here in Kansas City.

The worst... Billy Joel and Micheal Bolton. Went because of a girl (friend). Didn't even get a "thank you" from either one of 'em. (I've learned, no more sucky concerts! If I don't like 'em, I ain't goin'!)

1. Cure -- Robert Smith is awesome in a low key way.
2. Stones -- '80 and '94. Not sure how these guys held up so well for so long!
3. Taj Mahal -- small venue, engaging entertainer.

Jethro Tull, circa 1971; close second goes to Led Zeppelin at MSG in 1977; third would have to Cream at MSG in 1968. Ahh, those were the days/daze.
BTW All things considered, I could be off a little on the dates!!

I've been to tons of concerts. A few that stand out.

Deftones, Far & Will Haven
Gun's N Roses & Skid Row
Nine Inch Nails & A Perfect Circle
Faith No More & Limp Bizkit
Korn with Limp Bizkit, Rammstein and Ice Cube
Incubus & System of A Down
Marilyn Manson on the Antichrist Superstar Tour
Corrosion of Conformity & Orange 9mm
Fischerspooner

I gotta say, I am wicked jealous of a lot of you guys. The Who, Zeplin, Cream, Hendrix very f$%cking cool.

My first concert was Jethro Tul, catfish rising somewhere around 90. Saw Paul Mcartney in BA, Argentina when he was touring with lots of old beattles stuff, very cool. Best was probably perfect circle/NIN at the Gorge in WA. Not only was the show incredible but the space is awesome and the all night party was very cool in a hazy kinda way.

Eric Clapton was particularly good but I think the very best I've ever been to was back in the late 80's or maybe early 90's, (can't remember exactly), when I saw Joe Cocker. He was extremely good but as a bonus the young lady sitting next to me insisted, for some bizarre reason, on sharing all her joints with me. A very interesting evening ....

My first concert remains my favorite of all. It was a big show, Cheap Trick and Blue Oyster Cult headlining, with the Pat Travers Band opening. A guitar player's wet dream - all these bands were at their absolute peak at the time and it was just fantastic.

Actually, Cheap Trick has bookended my concert-going career - they were the first concert I saw ('79) and also the last ('99).

Luckily when I was a young fellow in the early 80's I lived fairly close to San Francisco and later NYC so I saw a lot of the bands that were somewhat influential in the history of punk:

Black Flag
The Cramps
Husker Du
The Minutemen
X
The Clash

I also squeezed in a little variety in there:

King Crimson
Stevie Ray Vaughan
The Stray Cats
