Best EDC Knives?

I love skipping straight to the last page of threads like this to see what nonsense the "conversation" has devolved into. Not disappointed.

Dear Quiet,
Let me wholeheartedly apologize.
I am obviosly in the presence of a better man.
Perhaps one day you will be in my prescence and you can teach my ignorant uneducated self who Jason Statham is.

What? You mean you don't know who Jason Statham is? I feel like I should be condescending to you, and speaking to you in the manner of an adult speaking to a child (like you tried with me), but since I'm better than that, I'll simply say, well hey, that's one for the both of us. I had no idea what Steirer Eisen is (and I wasn't helped by your misleading question, who instead of what), and you have no idea who Jason Statham, one of the biggest action stars in movies today is.

I'd call that a draw.

Steirer are the people that live in the Steiermark, Styria in english language, a part of Austria. Directly next to my door. For further information check out here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Styria

Steirer Eisen is a cutlery / knife maker from Austria http://www.steirereisen.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=..

Enjoy ;)

Uncle Andi,

seems you are more informed than I am, and you typed all that while I reviewed my post :)
Well ... what Uncle Andi said ;)

Oh, and it was still "Mister" last time I checked...

Also, Greykilt, for your viewing enjoyment, here's a review of Cold Steel knives being flat out abused and taking it by NutnFancy:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQfnSh2jZKc

Huh, no "Steirer Eisen" or letters written by automotive engineers anywhere on an anvil, just good, inexpensive not-made-in-America knives standing up to being beaten on and asking for more. Gotta love it!

Greykilt and Quiet,

Your confrontational manner and petty argument is derailing this thread.
Discuss the topic, not each other.

If you continue after this, there will be infractions.

Karda, can I ask that Greykilt not receive any infractions? He and I were merely having a spirited discussion. I'm sorry we derailed the thread.

I also apologize for the tone of my responses. The thing about Cold Steels is that they stand up to some real abuse for very little money. I mean, let's face it. If I have, say, $200, I'm almost certainly going to buy a nice Benchmade, Spyderco, or Zero Tolerance knife. Something I know is worth the money.

But when I speak with someone who isn't really a knife person, I always, ALWAYS recommend Cold Steel Voyagers as good candidates. They are inexpensive, and will stand up to abuse, which is probably the most important given that new knife people sometimes don't understand what or what NOT to do with a knife. I had a buddy who snapped the blade on the beautiful Buck 110 I gave him because he was trying to get some container open, and tried to pry the lid off using the blade sideways. I know full well a Buck 110 wasn't designed to be used as a pry-bar...but he didn't. But Buck 110s are what, $40? So, he bought his own new Buck 110, and learned to treat it better. So, as I think a CS Voyager will handle more abuse than a Buck 110 will, it's my go-to suggestion for new knife-folks.

Either way, the OP can't go wrong with anything that has been recommended in this thread.

who here watches nutnfancy and has a few other well known youtube channels or apps or free magazines about knives? is nutnfancy credible?

A locking knife with a blade about 3-4 inches in length

Looking for something under 80 dollars

A Cold Steel "American Lawman".

I've had one for a couple years and it is a really great EDC. It's actually a little larger than I prefer so my SAK "Huntsman" gets the daily pocket patrol, but not because the American Lawman isn't a great knife.

Honestly, it is the only folding/locking knife I've really trusted to not fold on my fingers. Do a google/youTube search for reviews/demonstrations - it's really amazing. The "Tri-Ad" lock, invented by Andrew Demko for Cold Steel, is certainly among the strongest (if not *the* strongest) locks ever used on a folding knife.

It holds and edge reasonable well and takes a very sharp edge. It won't disappoint - especially @ ~$65 US.

Get one - you'll be glad you did.

As was mentioned earlier, the search function here is your friend. It is quite powerful. Excellent tool....particularly the Advanced Search.

Also, if you want to change topic (ase you have) and want people to know you have changed topics (and reply to that new topic), you should open a new thread.

Also, nutnfancy is a knucklehead.

If TC is still here, you should check out some small fixed blades like the esee 3 and izula or the one of becker's knives. They carry very well, and will take a ton of abuse.
