Best EDC Knives?

Wow thanks greykilt thats quite the edc arsenal you've got there haha you're well prepared for the zombie apocalypse to say the least

Vinny, it's the Cold Steel Voyager. Searching this knife out, you'll see multiple blade variations. It comes in three sizes, also. Small (regular), Large (large-ish), and XL (ridiculous, it's a foot long when opened).

I have the Large knife, exactly as pictured. The blade has a nice stonewash finish, and it is a genuinely strong knife. You won't find many people complaining about these, they are a lot of knife for what they cost (which isn't very much!), and I think you'd be highly pleased.

Thanks guys i think im going to buy a bunch of lower end knives and find what i like and what im comfortable with then i'll look to go for a higher end knife purchase

I didn't know that $45 qualified as "Saks Fifth Avenue" money. Also, the CS Voyager line is actually pretty high quality, definitely not "K-Mart" quality. Not made here, that's true. But if you want exclusively US made knives*, you will pay out for the privilege.

*Which half the time anymore means "made in the US, of parts made elsewhere".

For one thing, I found it amusing that you made this comment, after posting up the excessively large number of knives you carry, most of which are Boker....a company known for copying other peoples' designs wholesale.

I did not know that posting a random Googled picture might be seen as non-forum-vendor advertising. My mistake.

Wow, age condescension, and a "knifemaker" with 22 posts. Pardon me if I don't go around checking peoples' profiles before responding to them. Speaking of which, your post was nearly incoherent:

"For me, and this is just how I feel, I want the letters inscribed on the side of the anvil the blade I carry was drawn on to be printed in SAE alphabet." It's almost as though you muddled two different statements. No idea.

1. No, I'm not aware of who Steirer Elsen is, which is irrelevant to the point I was making.
2. SAE Alphabet? I wasn't aware that the Society of Automotive Engineers had their own alphabet. I suppose anything's possible.
3. Young sir? Attempted age condescension towards someone you don't know anything about is hilarious. Also, pathetic.
5. How many K-Marts do you know are still open? Most of them in my city have shut down, and at no point have I EVER seen Cold Steel Voyagers sold there, so no, I'm comfortable with the following statement: you are incorrect, CS Voyagers aren't sold at K-Mart.
5. I'm not implying, I'm clearly stating my opinion that if you live in an area where you deem having multiple Bokers (whose designs were aped from other manufacturers' products) on you is necessary, me personally? I'd move. Because amazingly enough, I know a few amateur knife-makers (which I deem you to be) and none of them are walking around like the Jason Statham character from the Expendibles. But hey, barring any local laws, you're free to do what you like, just as I'm free to comment on it.

And you weren't replying, you were attempting to denigrate my suggestion with a poorly worded response which inferred that Cold Steels are subpar because they don't "have the letters from the SAE Alphabet (whatever that is) inscribed on an anvil" somewhere. What that shows me is that you actually don't have any personal experience with Cold Steel products.

Now then, as I don't see any further relevance to this exchange, I think we're done here.

Wow, I never knew. So then the question should have been "Do you know what Steirer eisen is?"

Of course, it's really irrelevant, because I wouldn't have known, or cared, about the answer there either. :p

Just curious greykilt, you said you like Boker but knock Cold Steel for outsourcing. I'd say Boker's overall level of quality is significantly lower than the overall quality of Cold Steel. Don't take that as me sticking up for Cold Steel, but their reputation has diminished more than any other knife brand I can think of, especially with them having products that are even knock offs of Cold Steel designs.

You can get a good outsourced blade, and I have a Buck knife sitting in front of me that's made in the US from quality materials that isn't even half the knife of my outsourced Ontario. My knife collection is made up of US made blades for the most part, but when it comes to knives priced so low, I do think quality outsourced knives have a place in the market.

Very Good Sir. You are correct. Now Who (or What in this case now that the whole point has been revealed) is 'Steirer'. You have time.

Steirer are the people that live in the Steiermark, Styria in english language, a part of Austria. Directly next to my door. For further information check out here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Styria

Steirer Eisen is a cutlery / knife maker from Austria http://www.steirereisen.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=..

Enjoy ;)

"Steirer" is an Austrian term describing something that is from the "Steiermark" the 4th biggest province/(federal) state of Austria ... and as said before "Eisen" is Iron ... So you have some Iron from Austria, Grats :D
