Best EDC Spydie?

Just got the Sage 2 after losing my Sage 1, and it's well worth the extra $. Perfect ergo's and can't complain with S30V.
The Ti also gets better looking with more use.

I'd say not the Chokwe. For me I don't like the blade shape and it seems too thin for my EDC tasks.

Go for the Sage 2. It's a great knife. It made me get rid of my Small Sebenza. The ergonomics are great, solid lock up, and it fits nicely in your pocket.

If you don't want to pull out a Para 2 in public then i suggest you not go with the Chokwe. Angular blade shapes scream "assassin" to non-knife people.

I own the Sage 2 and keep it in the console of my car. It's a great little knife. I might also suggest you shop around on the Exchange or eBay and see if anyone is selling one of the discontinued G-10 Delicas. They were forest green G-10, FFG blades of VG-10 and are just fantastic EDC knives.

Sooooooo..... Whutcha gonna do with the Para 2 you no longer want to pull out in public?

Oh I'll still carry it, I live in a pretty rural area right now where knives are no big deal, but do have to go to a city-environment where the Para 2 has gotten quite a few weird looks.

Also thanks Elkins, I was considering it because from pictures it looks relatively small.

I'm about 50/50 on whether to get a Sage 1, or Sage 2 right now. I love the carbon fiber, but I also love the simple design of the sage 2.

No one has really said anything about the chaparral :( Here is mine

I have extra large hands and I decided to get this one. I am planning on buying the sage 2 next week, but I really like the chaparral. Like I said, I have some big hands. If you choke up on the blade it doesn't bother me at all. Here is a pic with my whole hand on the knife

If I hold it normal, it does feel a bit awkward in the hand. I don't feel like it is going to come out of my hand, but I would like to have my pinky on something. Here is another pic with me holding it the other way.

I am really happy with the chaparral and don't have any plans on getting rid of it. I like small to mid size blades and this fits right in with some of the others. When I get the sage 2 maybe i can post an update on what I think about the two. But they are both very similar in size.

Hope this can give you some insight with the chaparral.

While I am a fan of the Chokwe, I'd say its odd shape and fairly long length are not conducive to a relatively NKP-friendly EDC.
Try the Sage 1 or 2. I prefer the Sage 1 of your choices for its low weight but overall, the Sage series while ergonomic are not ideal edge-to-handle ratio for me.

+1 on the Caly 3. I don't like the pinned construction but I've carried mine for over two years and it's perfect for EDC. Big enough for most jobs, and small enough that people don't freak out at the sight of it. CF scales and ZDP-189 blade--hard to be beat IMHO.

The Chokwe has a blade that's very close to, if not longer than the Para 2.

Actually in blade length it's just shy of the Military, maybe 1/4 inch shorter or so IIRC and edge length it is about 1/5 inch shorter.
Again, not the best EDC around NKP but it is one of my favorites for build quality and the superb balance of smooth opening and decent blade detent. The blade itself is excellent in the kitchen and light-to-medium duty tasks and has a mostly straight edge which is easy to sharpen. Tip is delicate.

To OP: Sage 2 sounds like it's calling to you. Go for it ;).

Sage 2 - is my first pic. Thinner in width that the Sage 1 (or at least feels like it to me). Just an awesome, simplistic knife. Big frame lock fan lately. I have had some lock stick issues as of late with mine, but the pencil lead trick has smoothed the lock out and no longer is a problem. Can't recommend this knife enough (own 2).

Chaparral - my second pic. This knife disappears in your pocket. Very think, sleek, slicer of a blade. Very ergonomic, really surprised with this little knife, wasn't sure I would like it. Textured carbon fiber is really nice (sage 1 has this as well).

Caly 3 - my third pic. Ergo's are great, cant beat the caly/ukpk pattern for ergo's in my opinion. Although this blade feels a little heavier than the previous two. Also has the 'smooth' CF which doesnt offer as much grip. Smooth as silk opening once 'broken in'.

It's like asking "whats the best god to pray to?"...Can't really go wrong. If you like it and it works for you then ANY spyderco is a good spyderco, It's all about preference. Depending on use and "sheepability". Good luck and Happy Spyder-hunting =)

Man just carry the Para2. It seems some folks will give a disapproving look to any knife. Just don't flick it open when lots of people are around. Just roll it out slow in a discrete manner and all should be fine.

PM2 is still my favourite EDC...

But I have recently rediscovered Victorinox as a secondary EDC, and now carry a Vic Explorer in addition to the PM2. It works great around NKP, and you cant beat the utility of having a SAK on you IMO.

Caly 3 CF/ZDP. CRAZY sharp! I've carried mine for around 2 1/2 years. I'm having trouble switching to a different knife.

A Ti framelock version of this knife in something like M390 or the new Carpenter 204 would be perfection.

The 3 inch blade length is all that I need in a folder.

The Caly -- ZDP is very hard to beat.! Hard to sharpen but once you get it there you can shave with it and you will fall in love with it.* Caly all the way.*
