Best EDC under 30$

Don't mean to hijack the subject but can't help myself when mentions the Rat 2 and Rat 1. The Rat 2 is really nice for the price at the $30 range. But have you guys notice China is copying the Rat 2 and Rat 1 also?? The Rat 2/1 is Taiwan made...but ever since around 5/6 months ago, I've seen China copy Rat 2 popping up on eBay for $24ish...then just last month the China copy Rat 1 pops up at $15...I think just beware when buying Rat 2...get the original Taiwan made.

for 30 bucks you can get pretty much any knife from smith and wesson and a spare. will last you a good wile and stay sharp too!

The Rat 2 is such a great buy. It's my favorite budget knife. The lock is decent, build is decent, and at least the ones I've handled and owned have all been very fast/easy to open with the thumbstuds. Others are available in that price range but the Rat 2 seems to check all your wants (including fast, though unassited opening).

I would stay away from S&W sub $30 knives. You will get much better quality in other brands as you are pretty much paying for the S&W name on a poorly built knife. The only decent S&W knives anymore are the higher end USA produced autos but they are just north of $100.

My actual real-world experience with the sub $30 S&W and Schrade knives does not agree with your opinion...

Most of the knives mentioned weren't sub $30 knives when they were released they are just that cheap now because there is a surplus of them that people need to get rid of.

How about the CRKT Drifter? Just picked one up and it seems a nice knife for about $22. 8cr14mov steel. A slight recurve (yuck!) but shouldn't be a PITA to sharpen.

I'll second the KBar Dozier, based on the Mini Dozier I got for my son. Nice little knife for light EDC tasks.

The Ontario RAT series will get a lot of support. I think they are pretty decent, but not my first choice. Mine is okay, but they are heavy. I would say the Kabar Dozier folder, or the CRKT Drifter.

You might try the esee zancudo, or avispa.

They're essentially framelock "versions" of the rat 1/2. They're made by the same factory in Taiwan, but are a slightly different design (framelock, more pronounced drop point, and different handle profile), and solder under the ESEE brand.

You should look at the Ontario rat 1. You can get an assigned opening model. Or you can get a D2 steel version which is better than the Aus 8. Can't go wrong either way!

I bought a CRKT Enticer that is small, and only 2 oz heavy.

I thnk I have seen on web around 40 mostly, but I got mine through Woot.com on one of their sales for 22 or 24.

I like the size for carrying and if you really want it to hide, you can drop into your pocket instead of clip and it hides well.

Kershaw Amplitude 3.25 could work for you. Not a perfect knife, but fits your criteria pretty closely. ;)

I've had one (blackwash version, not grey Walmart version) for a few months and still like to carry it occasionally.
