Best father's day knife for $30 ?

I may be the only one but id pick them up some Byrd Cara Cara's. That knife literally got me back into knives. I used one for legitimately every cutting chore for years. I'd go with a meadow lark or cara cara for all three of them.
I totally agree!

For a person that hasn't had a knife with a good pocket clip and one hand opening capability, it can be a real revelation.

Victorinox Alox Cadet is only around $24.95 at knifeworks.com. It is very useful and good looking. I carry one all the time. Another knife is the Cold Steel Tuff Lite. This is also in your price range and is a great, useful knife. I did not realize how useful until one day I had some floor work to do and I was very impressed.

An alox victorinox, cadet or possibly the farmer which will closer to forty .
Case has many in that price point . Peanut for example.
Ontario rats if you think he mite like a folder . Rat one or two .
Kershaw several models leak comes to mind .
Sypderco has a few in that range .
Buck I dont care for. But the have a few .
After rereading your post I believe a victorinox rambler, classic, swiss lite
I have carried my little swiss lite since 1998 . The lite and the scissors are much used
These are non knife guys and i dont believe a large knife would be carried at all

Sorry foks, The D2 Rat 1's I bought were on sale for $38.00 not as I previously mentioned , my bad

Don’t forget the Recruit model.
Basically the Cadet with toothpick and tweezers.
Plus the pen blade instead of the nail tool, and it's only $17 many places.
I prefer it because of the pen blade but the basic silver cadet is classy for sure.

Buck 112 Slim, smaller than a 110, and light weight. Maybe a SA in Alox. I also like the Case Sodbuster Jr.
I have another idea if you cannot decide or if you doubt they would carry and use it, how about getting a 30.00 gift certificate to a steak house ( hopefully for after the pandemic ) and then they can use the knife that comes with the steak to enjoy a meal. :p OR get them a certificate where they can get their own steak, etc and then they can cook it on the grill. Pictures of the cooked meal are required...so we can live vicariously through their adventures!!

I join the consensus here, I think you cannot go wrong with either the Alox cadet or the red Tinker

As others have already mentioned, gifting a pocket knife to someone who doesn't already carry one every day can be tricky business. No matter what knife is chosen for gifting, odds are high that it will be graciously accepted, but will ultimately end up living in a forgotten drawer somewhere.

I think that the best bet for non-knife folks is a 58mm SAK. Greater chance it could end up on their keychain and be available when actually needed. Let them come to their own 'eureka!' moment as to why everyone should always carry a pocket knife.

Good luck, OP!

The Cadet is probably the best knife you can give a person that normally would not carry a blade.
It is small enough to easily be carried with your keys but still big enough to be practical.

Plus, the Alox scales bring a little touch of class so you don’t look like a cheap ass when giving the knife.

If they aren't really "knife guys" then the Buck 110 wouldn't be the first choice.

In no particular order, Leatherman Micra, SAK Cadet, or a traditional slipjoint like Buck or Case.

If they have "knife guy potential", Ontario Rat 2 or Cold Steel Tuff Lite.

Would like to know what you end up buying. My Dad cherished the SAK and Micra that I gave him for past Father's Days. My girlfriend's father enjoys a Case Teardrop Wharncliffe that I gave him.

The 110 is probably not a very good choice for EDC to men who don't carry pocket knives. I agree with all the sentiments on choosing a slim smaller Victorinox. The Ambassador and Executive are two good choices along with many of the Alox scaled offerings.

I’d be tickled to get a RAT 2 in a different color. Or an orange Kansbol, if it could be had for under $30. I paid $27 for my green one, but one look at the color will tell you why they marked it down. Just kidding, but it looked pretty drab on first seeing it.
