RLSS = Real Life Survival Situation.
It was common here ages ago.
Usually said with a hint of cynicism….

The OP mix up was an easy one to make after 8 pages. My post has been updated.

While it was an honest attempt to be helpful,
I’m glad I could make your day brighter.

Who knows, maybe someone else will find a bit of value in it and my day will be brighter as well :)
Thanks for clarifying Real Life Survival Situation. I know people laugh at it. I guess I'm if the mindset, that in a SHTF scenario, I'd like to have gear, freeze dried food, and enough medicine to last 3-4 months. I'm certainly not planning to drive to a National Wilderness Area, bushcraft a small house, and hope to live for 5 years off the land, with my 4th grade daughter! I'm pretty sure we'd both be dead in such a scenario.

Remember the Tacticlol guy. gotta be one of the funniest videos ever.

I like how he taped his 30 round magazines together! I wonder if he knows that Magpul makes a coupelors for their PMAGs? 😂 That rifle has to got to weigh 50_lb fully loaded!

Leeper, leopard, looper.....yup.
Of course it was staged. It was done as a satire on mall ninja tacticool junkies.....
Yeah, he's actually a real firearm YouTuber. Even though it was staged, it was still hilarious. I'm trying to find the video on tactical throwing knives.

This is an off topic subject, but I wanted to share it. This September, I paid $9,000 for ICL surgery. ICL surgery is where they implant permanent contact lenses behind your corneas. I have 20/20 vision now. They don't make bifocal ICLs. So for people over 40, they optimize the prescription so that one eye sees things far away clearly, like road signs, and the other eye sees close things, like your smartphone or a book. When both eyes are open, your brain sees 20/20 vision. When one eye is closed, you can only see near or far. They optimized my right eye for distance, and my left eye for near objects. I wasn't thinking about shooting at the time. I went to the gun range about 2 months after the surgery. I've always been an iron sights guy, not a red dot guy. Well, when I tried to shoot right handed, I immediately realized I couldn't see any of the iron sights on my guns, not even the fiber optic front sight. I couldn't even see the iron sights on an AR-15! I only have 2 options now. I can learn to shoot left handed, or I can buy expensive red dots. I wish I would have thought about that before the surgery!

Corrective shooting glasses?
My buddy suggested those. I doubt corrective shooting glasses are going to help, if I actually have to use my CC 9mm. I actually learned to close my right eye for handguns, because I can see the sights with my left eye. It's rifles and shotguns that are the issue. I've been shooting semiautomatic shotguns since I was 15. I don't think I can learn to shoot a shotgun or rifle left handed. I would also prefer to not get hit in the face with empty shells or brass cases!

Go red dots and never look back. I have them on all my pistols and long guns. One visual plane to deal with instead of two with iron sights. Shoot both eyes open, place the dot on your target and squeeze the trigger. The most natural thing in the world. There is a reason why every modern military uses them except for the poor Russian conscripts who are still using the notoriously bad iron sights on their AKs as they fight a WW1 style trench war of attrition in the mud and cold 😵‍💫

Yeah, my friend I shoot with has them on all his rifles, and a few handguns. I fired his 300 blackout with a red dot sight. It's almost like cheating. I do have light+laser combos on all my firearms. I just haven't gotten around to calibrating the lasers 😁. But with a light laser combo, you have to actually turn it on, which wastes time in a real situation. Do most quality red dots stay on, or come on automatically?

I have a number of Trijicon RMRs on my pistols (they stay on about 3 years continuously before needing a battery change) but recently started buying Holosun 508T red dots which power on as soon as you move the pistol. For rifles, the red dots I have on there have 50,000 hours of battery life so you can leave them on for years before needing a battery change. Red dots these days have amazing battery life on a single CR 2032 battery so leaving them on continuously is not a problem. For defensive pistols (like something you will carry every day), lots of people change the battery on a regular interval (like their birthdays) so they don’t have a dead battery in a once in a lifetime self-defense scenario

Thanks for the suggestion. Much appreciated. My CC pistol isn't pre-drilled for a red dot sight, but I know I can have a gunsmith put one on. My Gen 4 Glock 40 MOS has several red dot mounting plates. That's my nightstand pistol. I don't think I would need a red dot for my CC pistol, because i've learned to shoot it well with my left eye. I'm actually very left eye dominant, so perhaps this eye surgery was for the best. My CC pistol also has a light laser on it, that can be switched on very quickly. I just need to calibrate the laser. I would like to have ref dots for my rifles, and my Glock 40 MOS.

I took a screenshot to remember this advice. Can you tell me the type of red dots you use for your rifles? I need to buy 2. The Holosun red dot turning on when you pick up the firearm, is a nice feature. I've looked at a bunch of Holosun red dots in the past. I just never purchased, because I was always really good with iron sights. I only had this eye surgery a few months ago. I was not expecting this outcome.

Go for Aimpoints on your rifles (or Holosun if you want a cheaper option, kind of an Aimpoint clone) and a Trijicon RMR on your self defense pistol. When you are ready to have your slide milled for a red dot, PM me and I’ll recommend a place to send it. I would not use a local gunsmith for this. Too easy to screw up milling a slide. There are outfits that do only this and you want someone who knows what they are doing .

Edit: just reread your post about not needing a red dot on your CC pistol. A laser is a good option on a CC anyway. Just remember to zero it (10 yards is a good zero distance for a laser in my experience)

The Holosun 508T (I have both the red and green versions) is an excellent optic. It’s sort of an Aimpoint killer. Nothing will top an Aimpoint (like a T1 or T2) but Holosuns come close, with more features at half the price. PM me for the place to buy these at the best price on the internet.

Another great red dot is the Aimpoint PRO. It’s big and bulky and meant for a rifle (I have these on a few ARs) but well priced and the build quality is off the charts
