Best hard use knife That..

You know, I've recently taken another look at the British MOD4 survival knife, as I cleaned up the one in my kit and put a new edge on it. Tough, production, and losing it wouldn't be the end of the world. Just don't like the sheath much, but it fits in a Spec-Ops pretty well! And I was surprised at the edge I got with my Apex. Just a thought. Great thread!

For a hard use knife the Bark River Bravo-1 would be hard to beat.

The fact that they are the most produced Bark River product makes them more available then most models.

The bulletproof warrantee means if you can damage it, they will fix it no questions asked.

Oh yeah, if you need a bigger hard use alternative there’s always the Bravo-2.

I could have retrieved the knife had I not had my foot and lower leg in a cast at the time. Them things are heavy to swim with.:D I broke my foot so bad that I didn't take a step for almost a year.

I am working on the Convex edge, I bought a 1x30 belt sander as well and have convexed quite a few edges. However, It is still hit and miss on touching them up. Sometimes they come out scary sharp and sometimes just scary:o I keep watching the videos and keep trying.:(

I saw a Sharpfinger design knife at K-Mart a few days ago for 20.00. It was a dead ringer for the Schrade and it is stamped Made in the USA. I don't know who makes it but I think they call them outdoor life. I think they are 420 stainless instead of carbon though.

I was told the Sharade sharpfingers made by Taylor is 440c. I have one and I love the knife. I only paid 15.00 for it. I carry a Rat3 daily but if I didnt carry it, I would be happy with a sharpfinger. You just cant beat a Pilots survival knife for a BOB. I have one in mine, for my truck. I bought a Camillus sharpfinger, I think it was called a Western, for 11.00 from SMKWs and I dont like it because the blade is to thin but for 11.00 I cant complain much.

I saw another one yesterday. This one was made by Bear and Son. Dandy little knives. This one was Made in USA as well.

marine kabar, if generations of marines cant destroy the knife i guess it is good to handle any abuse you can dish out. easy to replace, easily available.

I decided to try this one first. It had great reviews on Cabelas. I like the slim profile and faily light weight. SOG jungle fusion. I will test it at home before trusting it in the woods.:D I also have a Kabar Heavy Bowie to test. I will start this afternoon.

I really think you'll be pleased with the bowie, I really was impressed with mine. Great production blade.

I know what you mean. I figured I had the process down pretty good and was having nothing but success for some time now. This week, I built up the courage to convex my new Bu$$e Battle Mi$tre$$. I just couldn't get it to come out scary sharp. I think I was being too careful. :p I finally decided to just stop thinking about how much the knife cost and let the sander do some work. It's perfect now! :D

Stay sharp,

udtjim,

I asked this question in slightly different fashion a few weeks ago. I was looking for information about the Pilot's knife (Ontario or Camillus) for my wife's and son's bail out bags. Not too pricey that you feel bad it sits there, but a solid choice. Wanted to keep the cost down.
But Several people suggested I look at the Blackjack Grunt instead. Well I got one Saturday, was well as a Pilot's knife, (thanks Knifegunnut!) and I am very impressed with it. Sharp, solid and tough as hell. And for $20, you cant go wrong. I used it Saturday to remove a couple of troublesome roots in yard, prune some dead branches from our Pear and Apple trees, split a couple of logs with it, washed it and was still able to slice up a tomato for my lunchtime sandwhich.. :) Hands down it is one of the better production knives I have used, and I think it is a solid choice for most anyone.

I remember that thread well. I suspected you'd like that. Excellent.
