. . .

2) Sam Lurquin Hurak from the Paranee Hurak Project 2015

I know some would consider these fighters but I've been hunting with one on my belt for years :)

. . .

FWIW, I absolutely consider it to be a hunter. Much more than a fighter.

After all, who wants to bring a Hurak to a Tsavo fight? :D

I'll nominate a couple more, then I'm off to work for the evening. I imagine I will close this to new entries later tonight or early morning tomorrow. Then the finalist selections will begin!

1) Jerid Johnson - Loveless drop point hunter.

We are now closed to additional entries - let the selection of finalists begin!

I'd like to give a big thank you to everyone who nominated knives for the first annual Best Hunter thread. There were some amazing entries this year, as well as a lot of diversity. I'm sure the nominations for our finalists will not be easy, but will be fun no doubt.

Now we muat narrow it down to five finalists. The procedure will be the same as previous best Bowie threads.

1) Each member may submit up to 7 suggested finalists. You don't have to submit as many as 7, but don't submit any more than 7. Please take your time to carefully review all the knives.

2) Please include the post number where your selected knife can be found, and the number of the knife within that post if more than one knife is presented therein - this will help clear up any uncertainty in the case where there are multiple knives by a given maker among the initial entries. For example - a say post number 30 has 4 knives. You want the third. Put "Post 30, #3". AND DON'T FORGET TO INCLUDE THE NAME OF THE MAKER!

3) Your order or selection doesn't matter - one vote per knife up to seven, each vote counts.

4) Please feel free to include a few words about what appeals to you about any given selection. THIS is what makes the selection process most interesting.

5) When all votes are in, we add up the numbers (each time a knife is put forward by someone as a finalist, that effectively counts as one vote for that knife) and the top 5 will be voted on by polll in a new thread.

I will post my own choices later on. I'd love to do it now, but I just got home from work.

I generally like my hunters to have guards, and almost always like there to be balance between blade and handle. I have small hands, so a smaller handle appeals to me....with that:

Post:

4-1 Mirabile Hunter
4-2 Lurquin Hurak
10-4 Anderson Hunter
18-4 Dean AKI Hunter
19-4 Fisk Sendero
31-1 Craddock Hunter
50-1 Quesenberry Hunter

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Post #7 image 1- Russ Andrews- whats not to like

Post #10 image 7- Karl Andersen- love Karl's work

Post #24 image 1- Chris Montgomery- great job Chris

Post #32 image 5- Tim Zowada- Tims work is functional and beautiful

Post #32 image 6- Marcus Lin- my favorite of the bunch

Post #36 image 2- Josh Fisher- good looking and functional

Post #38 image 2- Tad Lynch- Tad knows what it takes to make a great hunter

Post #32 image 1 - Jerry Fisk Sendero - The Sendero is arguably the most desired and duplicated Hunting knife design of all-time with the exception of the Loveless Drop Point Hunter. And here is one of the finest examples of all that I have had the good fortune to examine (probably 100s of them).

Post #36 image 2 - Josh Fisher - This Hunter is very well designed for both optimal function/performance and beauty. It doesn't get much better than that in a Hunting Knife.

Post #10 image 7 - Karl Andersen CKCA Hunter - Karl made this Hunter for the CKCA Mini-Show and it's a pleasure to hold in your hand in addition to being beautiful and clean as a pin. Karl's Hunting knives are exceptional.

Post #32 image 6- Marcus Lin - As I referred to above, Loveless Hunting knife designs are field proven to perform to the highest degree, and Marcus did an exceptional job creating this one.

Post #27 image 1 - John Doyle- John puts a lot of thought and effort in his Hunting knife designs which is clearly evident here.

post 7, knife 1- Andrews

post 18, knife 1- A. Desrosiers

Great entries! Great fun!

Raised clips, harpoon points and double guards all say fighter to me - and while I admire and own many such knives, they are not what I think of as "hunters" even though they may be used as such.

My choices:

Post 2, Knife 1 - Wess Barnhill

So excruciatingly clean and perfectly functional in design. A real gem.

Post 15, Knife 1 - Ben Seward

Innovative and aesthetically pleasing. Well, more like stunning. Just love this knife to bits.

Post 32, Knife 1 - Jerry Fisk Sendero

The gold standard of contemporary hunter design, IMO, in a classic combo of stag and damascus. Sweet.

Post 32, Knife 8 - Tim Stengass

Some very intelligent knife design here. Perfectly functional and very beautiful.

Post 48, Knife 2 - John Doyle

A study in understated elegance

Post 50 knife 1 Mike Quesenberry

One slick little scalpel.

Post 51, Knife 1 - Stuart Branson

Everything you want in a large hunter and nothing you don't need.

Very nice knives hunters!
I particularly like more aggressive designs.
I'm going to stay with these 4
