Winkler Knives II

It´s like asking what restaurant is the best? It depends on what kind of food they serve and what type of food you like to eat. But I vote for Benchmade! They have something for everyone :-)

I dont think he intends to bash any brands or anything with this post. I think he is just looking to educate himself on what to look for for quality.

I like kershaw and spyderco the most myself.

Also some knives i own are buck and benchmade. Buck are high value and benchmade might be out of the price range for some people.

Its questions like these that make me wonder if the OP has bothered reading ANY portion of the forums before tossing out yet another mundane, uninformed question, like "hey guys, what knife brand is the best?" Seriously, read up a little and then pose an informed, specific query and we'll be happy to answer you, and in excruciating detail I'll bet.

I am insulted by this thread. I carry a Cold Steel Black Rhino. After reading around, its the folder that I really liked the look and feel of. It cuts well, it holds an edge. It seems like each CS is so much different from the next one. Because it didn't cost $400 dollars does not make it a bad blade.

Furthermore, naming a particular company? Some companies make at least one crap knife despite an entire lineup of outstanding knives. I will agree with other posters that the OP didn't bother reading any other forums. Nor did he even bother posting his own knife, he just threw Benchmade and Spyderco out there. To me the Spydercos look almost identical across the board, with minor changes. Benchmade on the other hand are a little more individual, but really do look commercial like Kershaw knives (I do like Kershaw).

Even the Sebenza, which some would cry heresy when I say this, is a bandwagon knife. It is definitely a very good quality knife, given its reviews (I don't own one). But sometimes the sheer hype can drive a products popularity and the popularity then drives the hype (until the next big thing comes around).

Don't knock things others like just because you don't like them.

Don't take the Cold Steel bashing to heart, Brutal-Force, it just illustrates that they don't know from crap what a good knife is. I have two drawers full of CS knives and they are all great. The centering on all the blades is perfect and the fit and finish is great as well. I can't say the same on my Spydercos, Kershaws and Bucks. I can only surmise that the negative comments come from people that have never owned or used CS knives.

And that's all I have to say about that. :)

 I don't think any of the knives listed in this forum are "bad" per se. But at the pricepoint or bang for your buck, CS knives are worth every penny. If they would make a "small" version of the Black Rhino, that would be my LTEDC "Lifetime EDC". I want to like a Spiderco, but I just can't seem to get past the fact that the blade design is almost identical on all of their knives. Good design? Meh, good price definitely. But something I would want to brag on? Less so. To me carrying a Spyderco boarders on carrying a Stanley utility knife. Kershaw/Gerber/Leatherman I feel less so due to the broad variety of blades. But if I were recommending a inexpensive blade for a friend, I would list Spyderco in the list.

Edit: let me take back the Spyderco comments. It really is just the thumb hole design that bothers me and makes the blades look so similar. Not me, but I can understand the appeal.

There are a lot of "best" knife companies out there. It just depends on what your definition of "best" is.

Best traditional- Case & GEC
Best high-end, frame locking folders- Chris Reeve & Strider
Best medium-range production fixed blades- ESEE and KaBar/ Becker
Best medium-range contemporary folders- Kershaw and Spyderco
Best production machetes- Condor/ Imacasa and Tramontina
Best mall-ninja gear- Cold Steel and Mantis
etc. etc.

That he made that statement without justification is precisely bashing, in my book. Some might even call it provocative or trolling.

All that aside, Dark Ops is the best.

Chris Reeve, Benchmade, Spyderco, Kershaw, Al Mar,Bark River and many others.
