Best Knife for carrying in a suit pocket

Polished G10 Kershaw Leek.

S30V blade. Nice smooth G10 handles. 3" blade. What's not to like?

That's the best picture I've yet seen of that knife.

For utility, I'd say Kershaw Leek, but you also mentioned SD. Then, Spyderco Endura would be better.

Knife carrying in suit. Well, on those rare occasion arises on me, I sometimes carry Microtech Mini Socom Elite in a special kydex sheath clipped on my belt. It rides horizontal and it's pretty discree I think(or just my illusion).

You may carry a medium sized folder in a pouch, or carry two. One small for general utility, another for SD. In that case, I'd recommend Endura / Chive combo. When I lent people my Chive, they just use it and return it without comment. It's so small and non threatening looking.

I get to (uhh... have to) wear a business suit every working day. I've tried a variety of folders and a few fixed blades. I keep going back to two knives... both very thin and light. The one I carry most is a SAK "Pocket Pal". It does most everything I need it to do at the office. It's also not very "threatening" when someone sees me with it. The other one that I'll frequently carry is the Fallkniven "Tre Kronor" model K4. The K4 is a very elegant but very well built and useful knife.

Spyderco Military?? lol. Each to their own I guess but pulling a 9 1/2", (oal) tactical knife out of a suit in a business setting is certainly not something I would recommend.

A Wegner Mouse Lite (Blade-Tech) may be something you want to take a look at. 2" blade of 440C steel and a nice compact size, 3 1/16" closed. ($39.95@ A.G. Russell)

He never, ever said anything about wanting not to scare sheeple. Remember when he said this:

"I have been carrying a 6" Ti-Lite lately"

He is carrying a knife with a 6-inch blade. Obviously he doesn't need a knife that will not scare anyone. He may never need the knife at work. Or maybe his co-workers are not knife-fearing morons.

He said he wants a knife that will carry well in a suit and be good for SD. The Military is perfect (though not the only option). The Mouse is not.

He likes the Ti-Lite but wants something that will carry better. The Military is shorter, but still long enough to be a good general-use knife that can serve for SD, and it is also much thinner and light. It carries very well but doesn't force him to carry something tiny.

Thanks so much all! I really appreciate all of the input from you guys. I am looking at the Spyderco Police or Native. They are decent size and look quite nice. I probably do not need a knife for SD, but I just do not feel comfortable without one.

(BTW, I am not that worried about the sheeple reaction. I have always been a bit of a rebel! ;) )

The Police is a fair bit bigger than the Native. Try to handle both in real life before you decide.

The Native is small but feels big in hand because you can choke up and use the choil. The Native II is thinner and the Native III is thicker. Some find the III more ergonomic, but the II may be better for suit carry as it is slimmer.

The Police isn't too thick, but it is long. I would not find it too large for suit carry as I like to carry larger knives and do not mind or notice them, but if the Native is the right size for you, the Police will be too long.

But the Police may be right for you (especially since you carry a Ti-Lite, so you probably like large knives), and the Native will be too small.

The Native is a good choice. I carry a Walmart Native with the clip removed in my jeans pocket when among polite society. Royal weddings, dinner at the White House, etc.

For suit carry, I go with Delica 3 combo edge with the clip removed. It makes a very slender and lightweight package for those airy suit pockets that make your car keys feel like you're carrying two rolls of quarters.

Maybe not the best for SD but the Cricket is a great cutting small knife, so thin and light you'll forget it's in the pocket. Handle one if you have the oportunity.

Swamp Rat Battle Rat!!! Just kidding, but seriously, I thought everyoe would be mentioning the Mnandi, but no one has yet! That's one great gent's folder.

If he asked for a high-end gents knife, the Mnandi would be the most popular suggestion. But he didn't.

A Bud Nealy Escort by Boker works perfectly with it's multiple carry option. I carry mine in the left inside suit pocket, and it's not noticed by anyone, but is easily accessable. I also bought one of the economy Hideaway knives, but it's so dull I don't feel good about carrying it. The HAK is also very hard stainless steel, and not easy to sharpen (for me). Please note I'm speaking of the economy HAK, not the more upscale models.

By some of the suggestions I'm seeing I'm guessing a few of you guys missed theocguy's post where he said "Thanks everyone! I need to keep the price around $50 - $60. I am at the point where suit-costs-money, not suit-makes-money!"

Another knife you might want to consider is the Benchmade mini griptillian. It's a quality knife with an Axis lock and pretty comfortable for suit carry. (3" blade-OAL under 7") Falls in your price range as well.

Griptilian has too thick a profile to fit comfortably in a suit, IMO.

It is a great knife for the money, though.

Slim and light are the key traits for a suit knife, if you're going to be carrying it in one of the pockets.

You didn't mention exactly how you plan to carry this knife; in your jacket pocket or pants pocket, IWB or what? I would suggest IWB carry with the clip under your belt. Wear a wide belt and it covers most of the clip but you do need a deep carry clip or a jacket over it or the top of the knife will show.

I don't know of any knives in your price range that have a deep carry clip but perhaps you do, or someone else does. The only deep carry clip that I have is a Combat Elite RRF but it is too thick and square to carry comfortably IWB (for me anyway). I have a Camillus EDC and a Kershaw Vapor which are very thin and would probably be very comfortabe for IWB but the clip is not deep carry. Since I never wear a jacket, they would show.

Regarless of how you carry it, I would recommend the Camillus EDC. It is a lot of knife for the money... AUS-8, a very thin framelock, as big a blade as you can get in a relatively small package, smooth & easy opening. The only drawback (if it is one) is the bright metal.

BTW, the Camillus EDC and the Vapor are the exact same frame thickness and identical when including the clip too. I don't think that you can get a thinner knife that would be stronger than the EDC but if somebody knows of one, please inform me. The EDC is very slightly wider when comparing the profile of the frames but not enough to say that the EDC is significantly bulkier overall.

The nice thing about the Vapor is that you can get it in black, so it can blend in with dark clothing. I think the design of the Vapor, both the blade and the frame is very elegant.

I'm glad that I have both knives and I think that they represent a great value in their price range.

Nick
