Best knife within 5,000?

Set a couple of 1000 aside and buy a decent knife for 1000 or so, One can buy quality up to certain level, byond that, one is paying for fancy.

I do not know what you want, is it a knife for investment purpose or do you want to use it in the field or as an EDC-knife? For investment I do not know what(Brand) knifes will promise a profit in the future, for using it comes to personal preference, material of grip, shape of grip, used blade material, size and shape. Trouble with me is, that when I have a fancy knife, I am afraid to take it out with me, I can loose or damage it, so I have some expensive folders in a cupboard drawer and an Opinel in my pocket as my EDC.
Same goes for me with guns; I own several really nice shotguns but the one I take out with me in the field is an old Merkel O/U in 16 gauge.

I would say (with my limited knowledge), to look around the custom market at some more well known makers. Some Shirigorov's, Kirby Lambert's, Bob Terzoula (probably spelled that wrong), can get up into the $2000-2500 range. I would say that once you get past that, you are solely paying for the "18K Gold inlays" or the "Jewelled Bolsters". Ya know, the totally impractical stuff that has nothing to do with quality, and all to do with increasing the $$$'s and making it "special".

What special has a knife maker to do for $2000-2500 besides stamping his name on the blade ? For half that money one can buy a knife with the very best quality blade that does exist and a good handle+ sheet.

What should I do? I got some cash and seriously don't know what's out there at this price range?

Until you tell us best for what, that is a meaningless, unanswerable question.

Best I can offer until you provide a lot more info is: Opinel mushroom knife. It is within 5000 and the best, so it meets your requirements exactly.

Buy a decent knife for under $300 and invest the rest of it so you will gain something.

What about buying few of good production knives like CRK, Strider and Microtech and then spend the rest on customs like: Stan Wilson, Greg Lightfoot, Bodega, etc.

Depending on your hand size, buy one (small or large) Chris Reeve Sebenza model 21 for about $440 and relax. It will last you forever...and you'll love it.

Personally, I wouldn't not spend $5K on "a" knife unless I had the lifestyle to match dropping buckets of cash on stuff. Like other said, buy a high quality midtech or custom and bankroll the rest. But, if you have money to burn and don't have any financial worries, then buy a couple customs, RJ Martin, Scott Cook, Andrew Demko, etc.
