Best knife within 5,000?

That knife on Page 1 with the white handle and alligator sheath was pretty cool. Is that a 5k knife?

uhm you should buy a custom for like 1500 at most then invest the rest into stuff that matters

Speak for yourself, I suppose, is the correct phrase to use. If someone has $5,000 spare cash and wants to spend it on an exotic custom knife, good for them.
Did you know the average Wall Street bonus last year was $164,530? If those guys even spent 10% of their bonuses on cutlery, it would be a huge boost for the knifemaking industry and custom makers.

Personally. .. I'd say if you have to ask. .. You're probably not ready to appreciate it.

Don't rush this. You can buy almost anything you like. Go do some research on custom knife websites. Check out the Custom knives sub forums and the custom knife exchange here on BF.

That said. .. with a 5k limit. Is get Don Hanson to make me a matching Big Clack folder and Bowie knife set I think.

Or if it had to be something more tactical a dressed up Terzuola or something.

Ask Bill Bagwell to build you a custom Hell's Belle in Damascus steel. That's what I would do if my money was burning a hole in my pocket for a weapons grade/collector knife

Are you looking to carry or invest? You can get a simple (but not cheap!) Loveless or Lake knife or Michael Walker for around 5K. For "investment quality" knives, I would recommend staying with a maker that has already earned their reputation and whose pieces that have already started climbing in value. They may not double or triple in value in a year, but they can usually give you a reliable 5-10% escalation year over year. That's better than most commodities can provide.

For a really nice carrying knife, you can get some pretty impressive-look, perfect quality knives for $2k or less from many of the names mentioned above.

Or better yet, set aside $4K for a future purchase and use $1K to experiment with current production models. There are a ton of great choices in the market right now. You can buy and sell in the aftermarket and really get dialed in on what your personal preferences are. Then, after you've got a better feeling for the direction your collection tastes run, you'll have enough in reserve to really swing for the fences - so to speak.

$5K is custom art knife territory for a folder IMHO, not something that would be a user for most people...

I'd rather commission five $1,000 customs if that money is to be spent specifically on knives but that's just me. ;)
