Best knife within 5,000?

Buy a Delica & a Para2 and one other Spyderco of your choice ( with-in a $300 Limit ) and invest the rest.! A no Brainer.!* lol

There is no such thing as a "best" knife the question itself is ridiculous. If there were a "best" knife, there would be only one knife and forums like this one would not need to exist. For the amount you suggest, I would find a custom knife maker, work with him/her on what you want in a knife and have it made to your specs. Then, and only then, can you say it is the best knife for YOU and your price range.

Not 5k but another knife or two it will be around there. Buy what you like even if you do happen to come across 1 knife that costs 5k.

Large Sebenza, the rest as a down payment on a new Harley.

Oh, we're talking about what YOU should buy with $5000.... Hmmm, that one's all you buddy.

Is this $5000 just extra dough you have laying around? (Are you independently wealthy?) or are you seriously looking to dump all the money you have saved up into a knife?

Yeah, seriously. Like AntDog said. It's all up to you man, but I could never spend that much on a knife. My most recent purchase was an Adamas and that was pushing it for me. :p But I've spent several years living on less than $10,000 a year so a chunk of $5000 means something different to me. :)

At that price range, I'd be looking at Sunfish Forge, knives by Don Hanson III.

For the money you're paying for his name and demand, the exotic materials, his own custom damascus, and an aesthetic 'flow' that's second to none.

Of course if I had just $5000 laying around to spend, I'd probably spend $100 on a new pocketknife, and put the remainder towards a new motorcycle or down payment on a used pickup truck. :D

Big bucks knives that have caught my eye are Rexford and Mayo. I really like the looks of their work. I personally haven't broken the $1000 barrier for a user. If it were my money I would buy something under $1000 and save the rest-at least for now. My money seems to find it's way into knives sooner or latter.
I certainly would love to have a medium Mayo TNT someday, but todays secondary pricing is just a little too steep for me.

Nothing wrong with spending $ 5 G's on a known custom maker . Typically it will be an extraordinary piece which will retain its value .

I have been at this for 30 plus yrs. You need to attend the Blade Show in Atlanta or another major show such as the Arkansas Knife Show , Familiarize yourself with just who is a a top tier maker or be on the lookout for a maker who appears to be on his way to attracting the sophisticated collectors . You will get into the flow of things , meet other collectors and begin to have your own ideas of just what type/ style of knife you like to collect . You will meet a lot of interesting folks and have a lot of fun . Caution ... be ready to be patient ..... the best makers always seem to be way behind .... so you may have to wait for a year or two or three to get what you want to collect . The investment decision is yours after you become knowledgeable . Warning , if you get into this make sure your marriage is well intact .......You might want to keep a separate bank account . If You THINK COCAIN IS ADDICTIVE .... Start collecting KNIVES GOOD LUCK

How about you tell us what knives you have or have had and liked and we'll go from there?

This would help a lot. Without knowing that, this is what I say:

Start small. Spend $1000 on a handful of quality production knives ($50-$200). Then spend about $1500 and grab yourself a few midtechs or cheaper customs ($400-600). Use the remaining $2500 to purchase either one or two really nice customs for yourself. In my experience, starting out cheaper and going up from there has taught me a lot about my preferences in knives, but I'm nowhere close to even midtechs. And if you already have quality production knives, or you already have a bunch of midtechs, then skip those steps, but I would still make it a gradual increase in what you're spending.

Hey everyone! Sorry for not giving enough information! Thanks for the feedback.. I want something that would be a high end custom or even something like a custom microtech idk? Just something that will stand out. I figured with 5k I should be able to get my hands on whatever's out there that people really want but is just very expensive. PS I already have all of the production folders you guys recommend. I am only interested in folders! And I would rather not spend 5k but I want something unique and perfect. Something to show off.

Could get a couple of full custom Emersons for different roles. MV-1 for EDC, UBR Commander for hunting trips, etc. You'd have a couple thousand left over for a really nice rifle too.

It's so frustrating reading all of the "knives are a bad investment" comments.

He never said he was investing his money.

Why? Are you a knife futures speculator?

You see all of those because by and large, knives make bad investments..... And with $5000 on the line, most of us are assuming it's an investment, rather than just something to ride in his pocket and cut the occasional string or open envelopes.

Who knows? The guy says he's just looking for something unique and flashy... Maybe he's Bill Gates.
