This is a tough one for many of us to commit to but forced into a corner, I'm going with the CRK Umnumzaan.
I like Striders a lot and some that I have contend as a great knife but where CRK gets the nod is with consistency of function. We can all argue whether F&F and cosmetic appearance should be part of any "best knife" consideration, especially when you hit the $400 and up mark and those are fair considerations but all in all, if we use our knives, they tend to look used eventually anyway. Strider tends to demonstrate a lot of MFG and "industrial" cosmetic flaws while most CRK's are relatively perfect in every way. That's what Chris Reeve is known for after all . . .
But when it comes to pure, long term consistent functionality, Strider still has some work to do with the lockup issues some of their production knives have while a CRK tends to remain at a high level of like new functionality years down the road. I don't get the urge to "test" my Umnumzaan's lock up now and then like I do in a paranoid way with my Striders. I own more Striders than CRK's but I never doubt my CRK's. Ever. I just know they will function and lockup the same way year after year while I'm about ready to send in my second Strider for a larger stop pin lockup job. Maybe when the new Strider lock interface is used on their regular, non-SJ75 knives, things will change. Meanhile . . . Umnumzaan it is as the best knife I have ever owned! I'm already on record as calling the Umnumzaan one of the best general (but high end) EDC's I have ever owned anyway!
My old Gerber BMF sawback.... that thing was awesome! QUOTE]
Mine was awesome too. That thing has smashed more than one sternum of moose in its day. It now resides on my dads ATV mounted and ready for a pounding. cheers to that memory.
Yeah it's a Lg 21 Sebenza I know everbody and their cousin has one but I too am very impressed with the F&F and overall profile and size of this knife it's just IMO about as perfect as a modern general use EDC knife can get.
I would have to say my Buck 311 Trapper. I bought it the summer after I graduated from High School ( 1980) I still have that knife and carry it every now and then today .
