Spyderco,Buck and Cold Steel.Have at least 10 knives of these brands and they never let me down.Even budget knife lines made in China or Taiwan.Fixed blades or folders, proven steels, heat treat and blade geometries.I especially praise high deep hollow grind for folders.Cuts like crazy and easy to sharpen.Would like to hear of other members speaking of their experience! I read here that a lot of poeole do not like knives made in China and Taiwan by these companies, but my experience is different. These knives perform very well, fit, finish, grinds, design etc are made to make an excellent product! And another one I forgot to mention is Kabar for fixed blades.Excellent quality for price. That is all I can afford, would like to get Busse or something similar, but right now its out of reach:).All input welcome.

One word came to mind...immediately....SPYDERCO.
I've had a bunch of them...
:)

Ontario Utilitac II or Rat 1, both Taiwan made and priced accordingly.
Great knives

Great knives for the money and still made in the USA. I would highly recommend looking at the Kershaw Link, Knockout, Junkyard Dog, and Blur. I think I put those in order of price. Some of the Buck Vantage knives are really well made and very affordable. If you are willing to spend a little more, then I highly recommend getting a ZT0350. I still say it is one of the best knives out there for the money. I am sure you can find a great price on a used one.

In fixed blades, you are right on with most Kabar's. Might want to also consider Becker. Some tops knives are a great value when you consider what you get. Lastly on fixed blades you have to consider the value of the ESEE no questions asked warranty!

Lot of great knives being made overseas but there are also a lot of great knives being made right here, and they are not all overly expensive. Just my 2 cents!

Sanrenmu, Opinel, Mora, Victorinox.

I've owned a lot of basic knives from Buck, Gerber, etc, and they really aren't nearly as nice as the Sanrenmus, for "modern" knives.

Ontario RAT 1 can be found for 25 USD and is an awesome EDC folder. Of course a SAK and an Opinel are hard to beat for the money as well. Further I suggest to keep an eye on the exchange here for a used Spyderco Military.

Opinel, Victorinox and Svord all make very good folders that won't run you more than about $20. If you want to spend a bit more, the Cold Steel Tuff Lite is a fantastic office EDC and the new Finn Wolf seems like a great outdoor option. Up the budget a bit more and you can get into the Spyderco Delica and Endura, both great all around knives. A little more still and you start to see major steel improvements, $75 will net you a Cold Steel Holdout 3 or Code 4 in XHP, $80 can get you a Spyderco Native 5 Lightweight in S35VN, $90 gets a Manix 2 in S30V and from there the options basically start to explode.

Almost forgot to mention Kizer. If your budget goes up to $80 or more they have some great values available. S35VN and titanium framelocks for under a C-note is impressive.

In no special order:
Rough Rider (a zillion models)
Colt (esp the linerlocks in D2) and their genuine stag folders
Victorinox (I always carry a Tinker)
Schrade (both traditional stockman, now in bone and their
liner locks, A/Os.
Kershaw (Skyline, Drone, other A/Os and flippers)
CRKT
Ontario Rats

Have an use them all.

I'm pretty sure the Cryos are Chinese made. I have them both.

Yes, my Cryo 1555-G10 says, "China" where a serial number would normally be etched. Even though it's a bit too small and heavy - it was well worth the $25.95 (on sale, free shipping) I paid for it, after I removed the thumbstuds. The hole for the ball-detent doesn't line up, so I can't de-assist it without serious modification, but I still like it okay. Sharpens very easily with that 8Cr13MoV. It's what I recommend to my "non-knife-nut" friends, who would scoff if they really knew how much I paid for the knives I really like.

I'd have to say that this knife is about the best.
