Best knives for the price all around...

I think the highest value knife that I've owned is the Spyderco Tenacious- relatively good steel, liner lock, G10, I think they are around $35-40. Kershaw Blur S30V would be a close second, I bought one for just over $50. I don't rate the Delica/Endura that high because they are FRN instead of G10, and cost more than the Tenacious and the Blur. If I move up the price range a bit I think the older Manix 2 is a good value. It has a good lock, G10, and good blade steel. They can be found occasionally for about $80.

Of course value means different things to different people. Besides the Tenacious, maybe the Ontario Rat, it may be that lower priced knives such as the Ganzo and Sanrenmu are the best values because of their very low prices.

For knife enthusiasts we have high standards and we are willing to pay more for them, so we tend to think that more expensive knives are the good values. I don't own any real expensive knives. My EDC rotation has knives such as the Paramilitary 2 and Manix 2. I think both of these models are very good values in their price ranges.

Cold steel is no1 right now, price and quality wise although I love other brands but cant afford it.Especially CS budget line, some pple put down Krupp steel in Cold steel budget lines, but for my needs it performs well and sharpens easily.Geometry and lock strength is what separates CS from some other brands, along with price.I regrind most of my knives aanyways, and they perform so much better, have CS Kudu,Eland, Recon1 in ctsxtp ,and voyager xl clip point on order.Ill get espada large in ctsxhp when it comes out, I think these knives cant be beat in performance and self defense if needed.Hold out in ctsxhp is on my list too,but espada large and xl rule.

listen to 22-rimfire my friend..........your run on sentences with poor syntax is hard on the eyes and a little annoying! have a look at how others post. (Just an honest opinion)

Check out kabar/dozier folders, these are hard to beat.

Regards and welcome!

The Kabar Doziers are definitely a good value even if they are Chinese.

Like the Cold Steel Tuff Lite a lot also.

For fixed blades I gotta go with Condor. You truly do get one hell of a knife for the money, and a very nice sheath.

Many come to the sobering revelation after buying the higher end knives and axes, that there are great inexpensive options out there. Get a couple of Bahco folding saws, a couple of Mora Companion H.D.'s, and a Husqvarna hatchet or axe. A guy can probably romp the woods for years with these inexpensive and functional tools. And if you lose or break any of them, they cost next to nothing to replace.....The spine of a carbon Opinel blade shreds off great gobs of sparks from any fero rod, straight from the factory with no modification. I often toss an Opinel and a fero rod in one jacket chest pocket, and a lighter in the other. This weighs nothing and gives me fire peace of mind.

All good opinions - notably that it is a great time to be a Knife Guy - especially in the budget end of the spectrum.

This thread should perhaps be broken down into categories.

Victorinox deserves top honors in the category it owns; likewise with Opinel.

EDC folders is where the field fattens with the Ontario RAT folders in their deserved honorable place with many others also in the mix - Kershaw (I am partial to the Thermite and Emerson models), CS, some Spydercos; and let's not forget the venerable Buck 110, complete with Buck's warranty/CS reputation. When it comes to EDC folders, in any price range, there will be no shortage of opinions around here.

Fixed blade knives have a place for all knife enthusiasts, especially us outdoorsman/women among us. In that regard it is very hard to beat the performance, warranty and value of Becker Knives in the "most bang for the buck" challenge.

Best knives for the price all around...
For my money it would be vintage USA made Schrade, Camillus, Ulster, etc. Great steel in excellent blades that can be found for incredibly good prices. I rarely pay more than 20 bucks for one. That's value. That's the best blades for the price all around.

If looking for new, I'd recommend Victorinox SAKs as one of the best selection of knives for the price all around.

The Kabar Dozier is really likeable for a $18 knife. My blue one just cam in and it's more than a budget folder. It's size, build and purchase that you get from the handle shape, blade grind are all way above average!

The new CRKT Squid definitely deserves a mention. For a knife less than $20, I was amazed by its overall quality, design, fit and finish, etc.

The new Kershaw Link is tops. Made in the USA, great flipping action, excellent ergonomics, and comes razor sharp. All for $45 (for the aluminum handled model).

I think for $20 something... a Victorinox Alox Pioneer is the best money you could ever spend on a knife/tool....that will last forever.
