Best knives for the price all around...

Best for the price is all relative. This question does not exclude higher end knives if one considers the value to be great. Some will say a Sebenza is a great value for what you pay. It is all relative....

For me, I think these types of threads always garner answers of Opinels, RAT 1/2s, Utilitacs*, Kershaws, Bucks, and so on because if we are being honest, it is a friggin' fantastic time to be a knife guy. There are so many knives of a very high quality, at a very low price point nowadays, we're spoiled for choices. So, you don't have to spend a lot of money in order to have a very nice knife in your pocket.

P.S. I would be one of those who says the Seb is a great value.

*I think I was the first to mention this in this thread, for shame gentlemen, for shame!!

Spyderco, Buck and Cold Steel. Have at least 10 knives of these brands and they never let me down. Even budget knife lines made in China or Taiwan. Fixed blades or folders, proven steels, heat treat and blade geometries. I especially praise high deep hollow grind for folders. Cuts like crazy and easy to sharpen.

Would like to hear of other members speaking of their experience! I read here that a lot of poeole do not like knives made in China and Taiwan by these companies, but my experience is different. These knives perform very well, fit, finish, grinds, design etc are made to make an excellent product! And another one I forgot to mention is Kabar for fixed blades. Excellent quality for price. That is all I can afford, would like to get Busse or something similar, but right now its out of reach:). All input welcome.

Added some space between sentences and some words and maybe a paragraph break or three. You might give it a try.

Best knife for the price is a value judgement. I have no problem with your assertions. You say that these products are the best and the reasoning behind your opinion. But then you mention that you'd like to get a Busse.... Price appears to be very important and it should be. I don't mind having to sharpen knives more often because of the steel that is used or my use. But I still like to own and use some of the knives that folks feel are very well made overall with "better" steels for the blade, good fit and finish and so forth. And yes, cost is a significant component when I make a decision to acquire a new knife. To date, there are some knives that I simply have not allowed myself to acquire (example Sebenza).

Absolutely!

Basing this on performance for the dollar, with a nod to blade steels, from least to most expensive:

Opinel (any)
Ontario Rat 1 & 2
Victorinox anything

Spyderco Delica 4
Spyderco Endura 4
Spyderco Native 5 S35VN
Spyderco Manix 2 S110V

Cold Steel CTS XHP offerings

ZT 0450 is a screaming deal at $160

After that, it's all about how much you value fit & finish, or which configuration of Ti you like, paired with which steel.

I couldn't agree more. We have so many good budget choices out there right now. That said, the OP said nothing of budget just knives for the price. If he qualified that with a budget amount then we could talk about only inexpensive knives.

I think we should mention knives in multiple price ranges that are best for their price. One I would put up is the ZT 0560. At $200 it is a fantastic value for what you get. Many of the SOG vg10 folders are great value. And with the fit/finish and tolerances you get with a CRK, I think they are a good value as well. We could also look at what Kizer is doing. I don't own one but they seem to be an outrageous value.

Of course the best knives I have for the price are the ones I have gotten used off the exchange.

Forgot to mention Ontario knife company for fixed blades, and Victorinox and Kershaw for folders:),have dozen or so of Victorinox Sak and kitchen knives, excellent quality and performance.

I like traditional lockbacks and slipjoints.
I think the "best value" for the money for a traditional knife, anyway, would have to include the Opinel, Moraknif, and Rough Riders.

Just my $0.01 worth, and as such, is probably over priced.

Enlan EL-01 any model but the rosewood scaled one is very good and hard to beat on value for money.
SanRenMu M1/9051
SanRenMu 763/7063 Axis models.
All are very well made with easy to sharpen 8Cr13MoV which is adequate for most peoples needs.

I've been very happy with my Bucks, all mine are US made, none were terribly expensive. I watch for sales at Farm Stores, Menards and on line at Midway. So I've only been able to get the mass market Buck's. But they hold up and sharpen well.

Anything Cold Steel.

Mini grip, and Kershaw skyline.. I use to only carry my m4 mini Ritter (why you ask?? M4 STEEL!!) But as of late I can't get enough of the Kershaw skyline.. probably one of if not the best "bang for your buck"

Got to second (or third) Cold Steel. Especially with the new steel.

Cold steel is no1 right now, price and quality wise although I love other brands but cant afford it.Especially CS budget line, some pple put down Krupp steel in Cold steel budget lines, but for my needs it performs well and sharpens easily.Geometry and lock strength is what separates CS from some other brands, along with price.I regrind most of my knives aanyways, and they perform so much better, have CS Kudu,Eland, Recon1 in ctsxtp ,and voyager xl clip point on order.Ill get espada large in ctsxhp when it comes out, I think these knives cant be beat in performance and self defense if needed.Hold out in ctsxhp is on my list too,but espada large and xl rule.

I am surprised the Kershaw Skyline did not get more love here. Great value.

The law of diminishing return really comes into play here, that's why I don't think many higher end folders will be mentioned. For my money theses cant be beat

Mora Companion
Opinel
Ontario Rat 1 or 2
Spyderco Delica
Kershaw skyline
Buck 110

I am sure there are others, but these are the ones I have experience with

i have a lot of knives I like & carry that probably wouldn't fall strictly into a value or cost/benefit category. But of the ones I have I think Fallkniven are pretty well priced for what you get. I have a few cold steel as well but most are bigger knives and I don't tend to carry them anymore (hard to argue value on them, though).

So that's me trying to look at it from a strictly price point perspective. Of course, I also think my Fiddlebacks, Blind Horse, Herb Derr, etc, etc were all worth every bit of the price as well and I tend to use some of them more often than the Fallkniven.
