Best light weight EDC

+1 on the Benchmade Mini Grip. So many configurations to choose from. I went with the 556SBKD2 from Cabelas. You can also go with a Ritter RSK model with S30V steel. The basic model 556 is nice but the fact that there are so many different configs to choose from is a great plus. I have never had a bad experience with either SPyderco or Benchmade but Benchmade is my favorite hands down. I also recommend the 585 Mini Barrage. A bit heavier but a great little EDC that shares time with my Mini Grip.

As far as SOG goes. I have owned 2 that just sucked out of the box. I had a Trident folder that was just crap and a Flash 1 that just didn't impress me. Both had huge amounts of blade play

David Boye knives don't seem to get mentioned much on this forum. The dendritic
cobalt blades are fantastic cutters, have relatively low cost and weigh very little. They
hold an edge damn near forever and sharpen easily. I have six and use them all
the time.

I know this may not be of interest to anyone but I have a couple of One Bladed Swiss army knives with pocket clips and they have been great knives. Sharp stout blades with no wiggle. Light to carry, clipped to my pocket. One is Wenger. Both are Lock Blades.

after much consideration from everyone here i ordered a Al Mar Eagle Ultralight for edc and got a bit carried away and ordered a Stretch 2 ZDP189, that seems a bit heavy for edc but it might be ok. I quite like the BM530 Pardue that was mentioned but i will look at that after my wallet has recovered some. i'll post pics when they arrive.

thanks again.

Mini Grip is a nice knife and everyone should have at least one of them, but for edc it's hard to beat Spyderco. Delica, Salt 1, Caly 3, Native, Centofante lll, etc. I've got a bunch of knives that would be suitable for edc but it's a rare day when there is something in my pocket other than a spydie. Since you already have a Delica it's going to be hard to improve.

Sometimes I wonder how people define "light weight" since that was in the title of the thread.

I personally wouldn't consider the Spyderco Tenacious light weight at 4oz. Considering the OP's original post mentioned a 2.5 oz Delica as a measure to judge against.

For a 3" blade I would consider under 3oz as "light weight" and under 2oz as "ultralight".

If the OP likes the Delica he might want to consider the slightly larger blade, same size handle, and lighter weight of the 2.0 oz Salt 1. The big hole on the Salt makes it easier to open too! I liked the Salt 1 so much I got rid of my Delica.

Hi Guys,

i am looking for a lightweight EDC for left hand carry that can take a beating...

thanks

Kershaw Skyline

...

and +1 for Skyline.

+1 Aforementioned kershaws. ...

+1 Skyline, spring for the damascus version if you really want something special :cool:

+1 for Kershaw Skyline

I like my Kershaw skyline very very much. Subprime crisis friendly at about $35USD. nice flipper design and and feathery light. One of the best edcs out there.

I believe they've upgraded the newer skylines to 14c28n steel from 13c26 for more rust resistance. I believe both are decent sharp but softer sanvik surgical steels. I doubt they can "take a beating" that you want it to. You might be better off with a harder steel like vg10. Dekz, how good is that damascus steel on yours?

Also on some skylines the blade hits the back spacer and flattens out the blade. This happened to mine. The blade chiseled a grove on the spacer so I think the blade doesn't hit it anymore.

Be advised the clip is right hand carry only. Also note it is a liner lock and almost all liner locks are right handed. You will be pulling with your left thumb instead of pushing with your right thumb to disengage the liner lock.

Tough topic to give advice on. Opinions on what constitutes light weight vary. To me, anything lighter than a Buck 110 is lightweight. Therefore, I'd have to go with Sebenzas and Striders.

I agree that the Spyderco Centofante 4 is a great EDC, super light but not all that sturdy. Benchmade 960 is great too but $$$ can't get lighter

My favorite light-weight knife is the Spyderco Salt 1.

Have to admit that this knife is growing on me. It's now in the edc rotation with the Delica, Native, and Caly3. I think H1 is a good all-around steel.

I am so f****** tired of people saying all SOG's have play. I have a Flash II that I use everyday and still no play whatsoever. I have used it everyday for about 4 mounths and still no play. The only play I had was, was a little side to side after I cut about 40-50 cardboard boxes up.
