Best lube for the Sebenza?

Like most others I've tried several different lubes, CRK fluorinated grease being the most recent.

High price and limited availability put me off buying CRK grease for a while; however now that I've used it I think it strikes the "best balance" of smoothness, longevity and lint resistance of all the lubes I've tried thus far.

I think many of us may have a little OCD...i know i like shinny stuff although there was a time in my life when shinny was out and performance was all that counted... now days i like to make my stuff shinny and then use the hell out of it.....it's alot more fun shooting those guns than cleaning them...i hate cleaning guns but i do it because it's necessary. :)

Cleaning a well-designed gun is a joy. Glocks, Steyrs, Kahrs, HKs, I love them all. 1911s are nice too, but a little more complicated- I was raised on Glocks, so I always have trouble with the 1911 barrel bushing. Graduating from Hoppe's No. 9 + oil to Break-Free CLP was a big step also, as CLP works so beautifully on modern firearms and it greatly simplifies my maintenance process.

The one gun I consistently hate to clean is my Mosin-Nagant. Taking care of the bolt is fine, but the barrel is a frakking nightmare. Since the only 7.62x54R ammo that ever seems to be available is (terrifyingly) corrosive, it takes centuries to get all the fouling out of the barrel, and I end up having to use some fairly ridiculous chemicals and about ninety bore patches every time. The Mosin is a joy to shoot, but a horror to clean.

I don't see anywhere that states this...got a link?

My bottle states:
"CAUTIONS: Contains an HD Paraffin base. If any irritation or problem develops, call your physician. Keep away and out of reach from children!"

I emailed Nolan at Benchmade about the question of Bluelube being food safe since I use my knives often for cutting food, and he emailed back, "I recently researched this for someone else.

Both Blue Lube and Blue Cleaner are food safe, but I personally use Vaseline or if I am hunting I use Crisco as a blade coating.

Some of that is just preference. I have used mineral oil to clean equipment, but never on my knives."

Take it for what you will. I was pleased to learn this. I use Bluelube on all my knives.

Food safe doesn't mean that in high enough concentrations that it won't make you sick, it just means that in trace amounts your safe from getting seriously ill.

Thank you. That's good information... :) I'll stop drinking the stuff, and just continue putting a drop or two on the pivot every once in a while.

I tried that today and it seems to be okay- a little quicker than before, when I was probably using too much. Still not as fast as some others I've seen, though, so I'm open to suggestions. It does feel "right" to use Reeve lube on a Reeve knife, but as I mentioned before, I'm looking for something faster.

Also, does anyone know if CRK Fluorinated Grease is food safe? If not, then just how toxic is it?

Ingredients:
Perfluoroalkylether
CAS#60164-51-4
PTFE
CAS#9002-84-0

Try Eezox.

I just disassembled amd cleaned my Zann and my Sng. ( The Zaan is one damn easy knife to unassemble/reassemble)
I decided to try another lube on the Zaan, instead of grease, because I have always hated the slow awkward opening of CRK's, be it Sebs or the Zaan.

I used some synthetic oil this time.

Yes, it did make a huge difference. I can actually flick the blade open with my thumb very easily now. For me, it made the knife much more pleasant to use.

Now I can relube my pivot just like every other knife I own: put a drop on each pivot side and work it in.

I will never use grease again.

BTW, I use Corrosion-X on all my folder pivots, but any high quality, modern formula, lubricant will do.

This isn't a matter of "maybe" prefering oil over grease.
I will have no change of mind.

If grease worked so much better than oil, I would have changed to grease on all my other folders long ago. It doesn't, so I haven't.

Some people like the slow opening of CRKs when using grease. I don't.

I have used bike ball bearing grease with good results. It is very smooth, but does slow action a little

This is unlikely to be helpful to most here but I'll throw it out there anyway. I've been using Tribolube. It's a synthetic (maybe lithium based?) aerospace grade grease. They, uh, gave me some at work. NASA prefers it for the space grade components my company builds. I'm not sure the specs on it offhand but the temperature range in which it will maintain its viscosity is something ridiculous. Not that we need that on our knives but it's still cool.

Anyway if you happen to have access to this or feel like spending $200+ for a small tub it works really great on my Sebenza! Gives it what is to me just the perfect opening resistance.

Used to be a big clp guy but have gone over to using m-pro completely. Kinda on the pricey side but now all i use for my guns. Non toxic and doesnt stink up the house. Just took down my sebenza yesterday and cleaned it..... I opened it from the mail box 3 hours before lol. It seemed like almost no grease at all had been applied. Used shooters choice grease in the syringe and dont like how that opens so i will see how m-pro works tomorrow and post results. Also i have seen people use a q tip to sprad grease and a tip i learned is to cut the cotton tip off or use a toothpic and not so much of the grease goes to waste. Kinda ocd i know....

Another lube that works well in my Sebenza is White Lightning. Right after the application it may feel a bit stiff, but after a couple days it is really smooth.

Mobil1 motor oil or Break Free.

Mobil1 is expensive for motor oil but a quart will lube guns and knives for a long long time. I think with both guns and knives people generally use much more than they need.

I'm sure it is not food safe (?) but you should be wiping it down to the point you can't tell there is any there anyway. I eat fruit, cheese, and what not off my blades all the time with no problems.
