Best outdoor and EDC folder

Cold Steel Large Voyager is good for it. The thick handle makes it comfy during tough cutting and it has better edge geometry out the box than most. The design is definitely better suited to repeated torque and pressure than some mentioned earlier. I use one outdoors all the time and use the SAK next to it for the awl and saw.

I saw large voyager twice in knife shop and each time I was thinking: who would buy this knife? it is big, thick, heavy and very ugly.

If you can up the price, a Microtech Socom Elite fits the bill and is a great EDC knife. It carries really small and has a wicked thin edge and thick spine. Its ergo's make it one knife that never leaves my pocket. Plus, in 204P its a monster than never dulls. The regular S35VN version was run hard and also has great edge holding.

Sorry max price is 170$ and I can`t up it (I am 14 years old and money is a big problem).

I was looking at pictures of Gayle Bradley when I saw that liner lock is not like at other spydercos (at other liner lock spydercos you can release the lock and then flip the blade without blade hitting your finger because there is a finger choil) but at gayle bradley liner lock is far from the choil and that could be problem when closing the knife.

So has anybody problems with that?

I don't have the gayle bradley, but when I unlock liner locks it is only my thumbnail that would get hit by the edge, so it doesn't really matter if there's a choil or not to hit your thumb. Depends on the person I guess.

Great success. I can now raise the price to 200$.
First thing that came to my mind was Al MAR sere 2000 but I can`t understand how can 200$ knife have VG10 blade.

vg10 is a respectable steel. not the edge holding super steel we are used to seeing at that price point, but not a steel that should automatically make you disregard a good knife. remember Emerson knives have 154cm and are in that same price range. but I'd take any Al Mar or Spyderco over any Emerson, if given the choice.

at $200 you might want to check out the titanium spyderco military. it takes away that little bit of light weight advantage and replaces it with a bit more solid feel in hand. still not heavy by any means, and it retains the flawless handle ergonomics and blade profile.

Titanium military is same as military except titanium handle and frame lock. Is it realy worth of extra 100$ (but if it has no blade play........)
And I just saw spyderco tuff. It`s nice but it is 5.11 inches closed and only 3 inches of blade.

Can al mar sere 2000 compared to GB or military.

Maybe not worth that extra $100 when compared to a normal Military. But still well worth the money, and a much better value than plenty of other knives in the price range ;) Depends on the person.

I would say Al Mar Sere, Spyderco Delica or Paramilitary 2 (Military will work as well but I prefer the shorter blade for carving) and maybe the Emerson Endeavor and owning Spyderco's, Emerson's, a Strider and a Sebenza amongst many others some of my favorites are still vg10 steel blades..
I think the Al Mar Sere compares very well and is well worth the money as long as you don't mind a bit of weight.

Ideas:
-Spyderco Gayle Bradley
-Al mar SERE 2000
-Spyderco military (or Ti version)
-Spyderco tuff
-BM710

And if knife has little more weight it won`t be a problem.

I am looking for edc and outdoor folder witch will mostly be used for carving tent pegs and general work and will be sometimes used as edc folder (but it don`t need to be ultralight or very small). And max blade length is 4 inches (it should be around griptilian`s blade length)

And max price is 170$
The Buck 110 is the best folder ever made.
If it needs to be light ? 186.Forget the serrated crap.
Noop. I'm no Buck fan. I just tell the truth ( too much)

The truth is that this will be my first real folder (non SAK or opinel) and I don`t want a traditional lockback but that doesn`t mean that I should buy something cheaper for start. I am 14 years old and since I discovered gerber :foot: (luckily I newer bought any of them) I always wanted a modern folder. And now I have got an opportunity to buy knife for 200$ and that knife definitely won´t be a buck 110.

You can't go wrong with a Military or PM2 or GB. I returned my GB because I found it difficult to constantly dis-engage the liner lock, but that's probably because I was playing with the knife. It's a great package for the $$ though.
Instead I picked up a SNG. :)

I'd recommend an Ontario RAT-1 folder for outdoor/EDC use. Decent AUS8 ffg blade that's easy to field sharpen and takes a wicked edge, sharp spine that works well with firesteels, full steel liners, excellent lock-up and detent, durable Nylon 6 scales, good ergos, flow-through construction that makes the knife a breeze to clean, 4-position pocket clip with good retention, carries quite well/slim for its size and 5oz weight... best value in the sub $40 price-point, imo.

Good luck, OP! :)
