Best outdoor and EDC folder

RAT-1 is nice but I am sure that at sub 200$ range isn`t best choice. And please remember that I am not looking for value folder.

I have spent the last two months on this search. i haven't found the perfect match yet, but I used a Clash a long time for OTJ EDC. Worked very well. Then I lost it and now I have picked one up again but I was given the suggestion of a Rat 1. For what I do it works well. The blade coating can hold up to practically nothing but the edge stays tight. I also picked up a Recon 1 and I am breaking that one in. It comes from the factory a little rigid and so I have been playing with it to loosen it up. Once I am happy with that, I believe that will become my new EDC.
When it comes to use in the woods I prefer a fixed blade. I have a couple of family knives that were handed down by relatives. I like my dad's Ontario the best but I won't take tha out with me for fear of losing it. It has seen more life than I have. I usually use my BK-2 or a Cold Steel I have for camping.

I have to say that I'm beyond impressed with the Three Sisters Forge "Beast". I've used it for opening the mail to shaving feather sticks and everything in between and it's an absolute pleasure to use and carry. It disappears in my pocket, and when needed, it's ready to tackle any reasonable task whether in the house or in the woods.

Edit: I just saw the OP's price limit, and the Beast is over that limit.

I just got idea that I could buy military and a smaller EDC knife!

But I am still more interested in Gayle bradley.

Spyderco tuff is definately a heavy duty carver that will with stand any Zombie apocalypse . Gayle Bradley is another heavy duty knife. The GB is a good looking knife. I carried the Military in BG-42. Great slicer. The BM 710 was 1999 knife of the year. Ergos are great. D2 is great steel as long as you wipe it down with a tuff cloth. About $105-$115.

It's more than the steel. It is how it's treated. An example is S30v. Great steel, modern, premium. However, some manufacturers do it better than others. If it's done wrong, it is prone to chipping. The tuff is the first non-usa made knife ive looked at in years. They can be found under $200. Cpm 3v is hard core steel. M4 is great steel as well. The BM is probably your best bang for the buck in premium knives and has a very strong axis lock that comes in at 1200 lbs per square inch. The GB is the pretty folder. It will take some abuse. The tuff diappeared in my pocket. I love the feel of the knife. I think there is no best. It's the one that catches your eye and says I'm your knife. All of these will do the job your talking about.

IMO you don't need a choil to keep from cutting yourself. Just need to pay attention. With that requirement you're looking at Spydercos pretty much exclusively. I myself prefer more edge.

Benchmades are very welcome because I can get it in our country for good price. But I am worried about carving abilities of 710 and there is alot of people that think that BM`s sharpness isn`t good.

If you want to go a cost friendly route, the Ontario RAT 1 folder is a good option. It isn't as high speed as some of the other models mentioned, but at $30, it's a strong knife that you don't have to worry about breaking, but it can still handle abuse. I find it great for carving for what you're getting. If you want to pay more I think the BM 940 (that can be found for $170 with some looking) is a great option. Its the only knife i used on my past camping trip. Needless to say i didn't need to use it to bust up fire wood or anything.

Most of the ones I got were very sharp out of the box.
2 weren't.

But I even got a somewhat dull Spyderco once...things happen.

Buy whichever one seems like it'll work for you the best...and buy a sharpener too.:)

Kershaw JunkYardDog II in G10, for about $100. By far, the cheapest folder I own, and one of the very best. I use it for all of my outside bush trimming and cardboard, etc. It is a composite blade in D2 as the edge, and it is a flipper; actually, the only flipper I own. It's a great knife, and you can buy a BLEM from the Kershaw Guy for probably $60-$70. Mine is a blem; I bought three at once and gave two away as gifts. The Blems are cosmetic only, and I could never see any problem with any of the three.

Here are top ideas

benchmade 710
benchmade adamas folder
spyderco military
spyderco gayle bradley
kershaw junkjard dog

You must know that most of my needs is wood cutting (whitting branches to make tent pegs, traps...) so knife must be a good slicer and should be able to handle general work and maybe heavy duty use.

It should be practical to carry but it is no problem if handle is thick (BM adamas).
And realy important is how well does it open and close because there is alot of just using knife for 2 seconds and then closing it.

I am looking for edc and outdoor folder witch will mostly be used for carving tent pegs and general work and will be sometimes used as edc folder (but it don`t need to be ultralight or very small). And max blade length is 4 inches (it should be around griptilian`s blade length)

And max price is 170$

Cold Steel Recon 1, or even better yet, a Code4.

Cold Steel Recon 1, or even better yet, a Code4.

I saw Recon 1 three times and each time surprised how not-smooth is opening, how heavy is it ,how hard is to close knife (but lock is definitely strong) and how big is knife.
Recon is 100% not a knife I would spend money for.

Can please anyone suggest anything.

And I have changed my mind. I don`t need to buy only one knife that would be very expensive but I can get a RAT-1, sharpmaker, kershaw leek and alot of other small stuf (if I skip leek I could buy a esee 4 or bk2 .
