Best Survival Movies

I didn't expect the movie to be "real" when I hit the play button. Did you, Skammer?

I expect some research lackies to do just a little reading for accuracy and plausability at least. It wasnt marketed as fantasy or sci fi.

Skambo didn't like the "perpetuation of the myth" that one can survive with out a monster fixed blade. :)

Haha,Skam didnt like how someone could get lost walking around a lake. Or how that blade never needed sharpening after getting 100's of hrs of use in 24. Or how easy it is to outrun a griz etc.....

There was an old (70's) english TV series called "the survivors". It was a post disease holocaust series which I remember as really good. I haven't seen it since so it might not have aged well.

I did not see him sharpen his knife, however I did not see him take a dump either. I assumed both happened along the way somewhere.

Who got lost walking around a lake?

I don't remember him being lost didn't he make a compass from the second hand from his watch and as for out running the grizz didn't they kill the bear by impaling it on a lance because they couldn;t out run the critter. maybe we were watching a diffrent "The Edge" with Anthony Hopkins:confused:;)

This weekend I am going to compile a list of the movies in this thread and maybe we can get some reviews of the more obscure ones. Keep the titles coming in. I remember seeing a movie with George Peppard in which there was a nuclear war or something and they built this multi-wheeled vehicle and then went across the country to find survivors. Anyone remember the name? I think there were mutant fire starting cockroaches in it. Maybe I need roach spray on my BOB.

I belive your talking about Damnation Alley also stars Jan-Michael Vincent

Great thread!

Most of my suggestions are already covered, but there is one movie I dont remember the title of, but it was quite good (I'm pretty sure it was based on a true story)

basically this couple are flown into the bush (north west canada or alaska maybe?) to take care of a small camp. Something goes wrong with the supplies and radio so they decided to travel to the nearest manned camp. It's a race against the winter as they try to take a short cut over a mountain range.

Pretty interesting, not so much informative as the characters dont have many "survival skills", but a moving movie, especially when the couple fights over whether to eat the husbands pet dog.

Anyone remember the name of this film? I'd really like to watch it again.

The Dick Proenneke movie Its the only one about really surviving....

Well Dieter's movie is about that too, but in a different way. The better movie is Dieters own account called Little Dieter needs to fly. get it, watch it, and then re watch it and understand what people go thru to be Citizens of this country.

Against my better judgement, I ordered Surviving the Game based on someone's recommendation here. I want my money back. I also feel cheated that Ice T survived, much like I felt cheated that Bart the Bear didn't eat Alec Baldwin in The Edge.
