Hi,

Im very new to the knife scene. I was looking for an edc knife for protection due to the increasing number of monkey attacks in my area. I initially bought a cold steel triple action as it looked very intruiging. However the handles get damaged with normal use so I returned it. A very nice idea, just not well executed with the gay handles.

I emailed my local pd and they informed me any folder 4 inches or less is cool. They neglected to mention anything about a double edged restriction, so it's good the triple action was returned (gay handles).

I've been looking online and so far I really like the "look" of the SOG Spec Elite I. The SOG Vision also looks cool. Are these good choices? What would you choose and why? Thanks!

$200 or less

Benchmade 710 would be my pick. The blade is just under 4 inches and is made from D2 steel.

It runs about 105-120 $'s online.

I would say ZT something, especially for Tacticool.

If you search around, you can probably find a 300/301/302 user for about $180-$200. Or you could go with the ZT0350 or ZT0200 for around $110 instead, which are more affordable.

A more edc friendly tactical blade would probably be the Spyderco Military (around $110 new). Though I don't own one, it definitely has the blade length needed, plus the FFG is amazing. I have a Paramillie and love the FFG. Another Spyderco offering you might consider might be the Police3 G10.

ZT0200 or ZT0500 would work. I guess the G-10 Tyrade would also work, and it is a Speed-Safe knife.

Thanks for all the great suggestions! Can anyone comment one way or the other on the SOG Spec Elite I? I haven't seen it mentioned so maybe it's not a great choice. I just don't know.

I also just saw something that grabbed my attention. How about the Lone Wolf Defender? It's supposed to have won some 2009 knife award, but I cant find a single review! And wow, what a handsome knife. Any1 have any experience with this?

Lone wolf t2 , you will never regret it , awesome quality , good s30 v steel , also one of the fastest and easiest to deploy, As good of quality as any 3 to 4 hundred dollar custom and a blade that cuts instead of that prybar junk .

A Benchmade 710 with the backside sharpened. Knife opens lightning quick and it has a strong grip for thrusting and stabbing. Even with the handle lubricated in blood, the grip is still secure. The AXIS lock is very secure as well, and no failure has ever been reported. Decent 4 oz. weight for a 4" blade folding knife. Most 3" knives weigh about the same. The narrow blade profile is useful for penetrating armor, bone, you name it, and stabbing gets even better with the backside sharpened. The recurve is a must for EDC cutting.

I recommend the non-coated 710 blade, because a shiny blade is more intimidating to your attacker. Maybe they will just run after seeing your knife.

I would buy it just because it's so damn beautiful. However, blade doesn't have recurve, which IMHO is a must for EDC use.

+1 on the military, but for monkey attacks I'd suggest carrying lots of bananas with you and throw them at the monkeys to distract them long enough to get away. because I seriously doubt a 4" pocket knife is gonna stop them. Maybe go for a gun? or pair of really lightweight running shoes?;):D

I don't think a knife can really do its job if there are more than 3 monkeys attacking you:)
Try the pepper spray. Ha.

I get a lot of use out of this picture
DLC coated Military, I guess you could call it tactical

Just out of curiosity are you trained in knife fighting? Without proper knowledge on using the weapon effectively the knife can be a pretty dangerous liability.

Just my 2 cents.

That's a valid point about the OP's personal safety. Who knows, he could accidentally stab himself while defending against attacking monkeys. He should sell all his knives to me.

I thought by monkeys he meant a bunch of human thieves. Apologies.

Im just saying a knife could be easily turned against someone untrained.

:thumbdn:

how do you figure?? do you feel as if you can easily take a sharp knife away from the average person if you were to find yourself in some kind of fight with them?
