Best tactical edc folder under $200?

Best to "out-monkey the monkey" this is similar to Delta Forces' Vietnam era strategy of out G-ing the G [G is for guerilla insurgent] where the Spec-Ops ninjas would use and surpass the guerillas own tactics to defeat him handily. I suggest making punji sticks out of dried and hardened banana peels along with speakers blasting howler monkey mating calls in order to harry and flush your simian opponents out into the open, where you can cut them to peices with a Dark Ops Stratofighter. ;)

CQC 8 would be my first pick if i had to use a folder. Can you carry a gun? If you can, that should be your first choice as a defensive tool. A big stick second, a large fixed blade third and lastly, a folding knife. A military will do justfine if you don't want to buy a CQC 8 (pricey)

All kidding aside, if you can legally carry it, get a decent FB. While the knife itself it important & you want something big enough to do some damage & be comfortable in your hand, the sheath system is important, too. How you're going to carry it.

I no longer have one, but for the $, it's hard to beat a RAT3 or RC3 with a Tek-Lok & carry it horizontally. I recommend the RAT/RC because it's a good all around EDC, not just for SD, but will do the job.

If it has to be a folder & it can be an auto, that's an idea (Although even though I can legally carry one, I don't like them as I've had 1 or 2 break on me & it always seemed to be at a bad time). One of the ZT or Kershaw A/O's aren't bad, either.

However, for the $ & ease of pocket carrying it (Clipped inside my pocket & still being out of the way so I can put my hands in that pocket), I agree that the BM 710 is hard to beat. It has a decent length blade, great blade steel, & is slim carrying. Also, the axis lock is strong, quick, & ambidextrous. Others that come to mind are the Military & Endura. Although it carries wider than the 710, other than that, a waved Endura's a great choice. If you do decide on a waved Endura, try it with the wave forward. You'll find that it opens/waves easier.

Good luck with whatever you get.

what kind of monkeys are we talking about here? Chimps, Orangutans, Guerrillas?

if its a guerrilla i recommend a .357 magnum. Do you think a karambit would be effective against a monkey, no reach.

I understand his predicament with the monkeys. I worked in a remote aboriginal settlement (Australia) which was populated with hundreds of camp dogs. They were able to be bluffed most of the time but they were never fed so were always "aggro". I had a knife which strangely enough the dogs didn't give a shit about. It got to the stage where i actually stabbed a couple when they attacked me but as i was stabbing/slashing one dog the others would attack from different angles which pissed me off no end. I graduated to kali sticks but they were useless ( probably great for humans but useless for a pack of dogs). I observed the locals and suddenly relized why they all had long handled shovels and digging sticks (5 foot long crow/pry bar). My problems almost stopped immediately. They had a go but with the extra reach i could hit them at a distance and the force of a long handled shovel meant they stayed hit and the enthusiasm of the others waned considerably. I know the original question was regarding a good folding knife but i had a syderco chinook 1 which is great but does have its limitations. If he wants to get serious get a big shovel!!

gurerrillas are formidable opponents and are pretty agile due to their superb musclar sinews and mid development of their core. they are quite truculent creatures which I have observed in my pubescent years caring for them at a local zoo ran by my Uncle Deibert'. We never used weapons of the sort which you have described in your post, as for protecting ourselves, only a small slap to the bottom (no pun intended) usually suffice coupled w/ Lazzi-esque makeup to give cheerfulness and joy.

Please take care (directed to OP) as the Macaque are wily creatures and have been known to Maguyver-esque different materials in order to harm creatures of the Hominidae.

If all else failed we stored a nail-bat (wiffle bat mind you) in a ANSI regulated orange combination box at different locations at the zoo.
