Best work around the house/yard folder for under $100

Yep. You need to choose the right tool for the job. I am a folder guy, but I often use a fixed blade around the house. It is mostly used for digging out weeds or cutting soil balls if I am planting. The folder does most of the little stuff.

Many good suggestions in this thread for a round the house folder. I generally use my SAK, but I could just as easily use a fairly large bladed folder as I am not carrying it anywhere off property where I might not feel comfortable using or carrying it in that setting.

Don't forget to look in to fixed blades. A sheathed fixed blade is easier to deploy and put back than a locking folder. Laws regarding carry probably won't apply on your own property, and you're not going to get weird looks at home (no more than normal, anyway).

Yes! I’m a fixed blade guy all day everyday. (Especially having had a SOG arc lock fail and leave me with a nice scar.) Tons of options for under $100.

And a $14 Mora will do anything any other knife can do.

In the yard I normally use one of the following:

Gec 73
Case sodbuster
Cs recon 1 or lawman

As a matter fact, they are fantastic knives :)
All jokes a side, we use only high quality steels: US made CPM154 and S90V, and German D2. We have our own proven HT, and at the end we offer a high quality, hand made folder or fixed blade at very affordable price with lifetime warranty.

My yard work folder is an Esee Avispa. It’s large enough to handle most chores that I’m likely to run into, cheap enough that I don’t mind subjecting it to some abuse, takes a good edge, and is easy to sharpen.

The Ontario Rat 1 is functionally identical, but prefer the Avispa’s blade shape.

I will say that if I go outside with the *intention* of doing some cutting/clearing I’ll carry a tool more suited the the specific job (such as a machete, hatchet, saw or fixed blade). Nevertheless, the Avispa has tackled quite a few jobs that it wasn’t designed for.

cold steel broken skull. Huge and excellent slider, great grip, light so you can wear it in gym shorts and not notice it. Also works for food prep.

If your breaking down cardboard frequently and don't really plan to cut food. Go Serrated Spyderco salt knife (whatever size you like) they rule. I typically have a dragonfly on me at all times, its the most EDC blade you realistically need. Exclusions include cutting apples or food. Otherwise it wins. Oh and the Benchmade Bugout is a tad over $100 but super light, great slicer and just a good all around very light for its size knife. Delica is also nice. Buy them all!
