Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

donn donn Fine looking pub you showed earlier, very appealing  But Smoked Farmhouse Porter??:poop: And that Barley wine sounds like a recipe for getting legless:D:D:cool:

I'm impressed that you can keep a P the E six pack in the fridge for so long! ;) How's the Sierra Nevada hazy IPA? Sierra Nevada has been a pretty reliable source of porters and stouts for me over the years.
I'm quite ignorant about photography, but I noticed a strange effect in your backyard pic: everything in the background seems to be encased in a "bubble" of some kind. Is that a filter you use, or just a normal foreground/background artifact of some kind?!?

P the E is a bit strong and only comes in large bottles, so I treat it as an occasional indulgence. :)

The Sierra Nevada is quite good. I can see myself buying it again. As for the pic, I think that effect was a combination of zooming in a bit and tapping to focus on the can. I’m continually impressed by the iPhone camera, and I don’t even have the latest model.

So my first pub in over a month.

I’m so sorry to hear about your mom’s accident. I hope that she has been able to rest comfortably and is on her way to recovery. I hope you are holding up OK; it’s good to see you here again.

Today I’ve got my finest English knife and a pint of an English-style bitter called London Calling, from Freewheel Brewing. It’s from a growler I had filled from their hand-pull cask yesterday. Fantastic stuff.

I like a good barley wine, hard to find around here. One store carries a barley wine by clown shoes, tasty but expensive .

There quite rare here as well actually very few breweries brew barley wines nowadays. That one cost the equivalent of about $6.30. I've rarely drank one myself, but I think I'll be heading back to the farm shop tomorrow to acquire more of these :D:thumbsup:

The pub was perfect. I'd been doing this:

most of the day and still had more to go. I walked in frozen and soaking wet through, sat with my pint in front of the fire and I almost grabbed one of their B&B rooms. Wish I had now :D

Thanks for your kind words Whittlin', it's good to be back. My mum is much better thank you.
That pint looks as good as I'm sure it tastes. I'm assuming that was at the brewery tap?

I’m very glad to hear that.

The photo was taken in my backyard, but the beer was fetched from the brewery yesterday in a 4-pint take away container.

donn donn A pint bottle of clown shoes barley wine runs around $12 at the local store so it's a special occasion drink.

I hope you enjoyed the brewery, must be nice to have a tap close by. A lot of our breweries don't have brewery taps as such. And even better if your backyard is as warm as it looks :)

Crikey so we get a bargain over here. Your right though it is a special occasions drink really. That 330ml/11.6 fl oz bottle cost £4.50. A usual bottle of quality ale over here will cost £1.50 to £2.70ish. So there's a definate difference in cost. Mind you, beer over here is taxed according to it's ABV (amongst other things) so the 9.7% ABV attracts maximum tax.

This "milk stout" is pretty good, and I REALLY like the jigging on the Rough Rider canoe (although the bolsters are a bit much for my tastes):

GT, that Neapolitan Milk Stout sounds interesting. Their website says it contains all three flavors of Neapolitan ice cream. I’ve had beers with hints of chocolate and vanilla before, but I can’t say I’ve tried one with a strawberry flavor before. :D

I agree with your assessment of the jigging and bolsters on your RR Canoe. Do both blades have a reverse etch like that? (Not sure if that’s the right term for that.)

@5K Qs I’m glad you’re back to stouts of your liking. I don’t know whether it’s available in your area (sadly, it’s not in mine), but give Left Hand Brewery’s milk stout a try if you come across it. It’s excellent, like the jigging on your RR.

This evening I’m enjoying the penultimate bottle of Pliny the Elder from a set of six that I picked up at the brewery in Santa Rosa. The lambsfoot was in my pocket and got the photo op, but I probably should have included my Marttiini Lynx Lumberjack that was on my hip while working in the garden this afternoon, as it put in more work today.

GT, I would agree with Greg’s recommendation of Left Hand’s Milk Stout. It’s worth a try if you can find it.

Greg, I haven’t had a chance to try Pliny the Elder yet, but hopefully I’ll get ahold of a bottle at some point.

Your Lambsfoot is looking good.

I tried this for the first time last night. It is delicious!
I swear, before I left Western New York ten years ago, I was able to get a 30 pack for $10 with a $10 rebate. Where I am now, I have to pay imported prices - so it's usually what I ask my parents to bring when they visit!

That's crazy cheap! I can only get it here at the local liquor store because there is a beer enthusiast who owns it and gets stuff from all over.
