Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

I have to say, Jack, I don't think "Elvis Juice" is the most appealing name :D, but a grapefruit infused IPA sounds alright. How was it?

(Side note: Rogue Ales made a Chocolate, Peanut Butter and Banana Ale as part of their very weird Voodoo Donuts series. Seems like that might be more fitting for an Elvis-themed beer. Of course, I've never tried it because a) it sounds awful and b) I already made the mistake of trying their Maple Bacon Ale. Tasted like Waffle House dishwater. :barf:)

It sounds plain WRONG doesn't it?! :D It was OK, not as strange as it sounds, I'd have preferred a bit more bite. Unfortunately, I've tossed the bottle, so I can't quote the usual florid Brewdog hyperbole on the back label  ;)

LOL! :D I once tried a curry-flavoured beer - absolutely rotten! :barf: :D

One of my absolute favorite beers! Its only available during the fall/early winter but I wait half the year it to hit the shelves.

Definitely a good one, JITDC! Founders is in the same city as I am, but I haven't had the Breakfast Stout in ages; something I should look for next time I get groceries.

I have a seasonal beer I wait for, too: Leinenkugel Vanilla Snowdrift Porter. Still wasn't in my grocery store this morning; I think I have to wait until December. But I picked up this Leinie Bavarian Dunkel that I'd never tried before, and my first impression was very positive! :D Pictured with a Buck 371 that Randy (rredden) generously sent me this week!

Jack, I love playing virtual UK beer tourist through your photos.

I need to make it back to England one of these days and enjoy some proper Real Ale. (Hmm.... "Real" lambsfoot; "Real" ale: a pattern in my tastes is coming to light, I think.)

That Breakfast Stout is some good stuff! Last winter was the first time I'd seen it available in the Bay Area. I'll pick some more up this year for sure.

I had the opportunity to try their Kentucky Breakfast Stout a couple of years ago. It was outstanding!

GT, I'm not sure I've seen Leinenkugel on our shelves, but I'm going to keep my eye out for it. Vanilla Snowdrift Porter sounds like a perfect companion to a rainy day like we are having today.

My wife and I started our Christmas shopping at the Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco today. We made a good dent in our shopping list and I also managed to pick up a couple of treats for myself, which I'm enjoying now. Burly Beverages Ginger Beer Syrup and some copper cups. Add some bourbon and lime and we're good to go. :)

Beautiful 371, GT!

I went "Beer shopping" with my brother this morning. It's as dorky as it sounds. Here are a few of the highlights posing with my Glennbad modified Camco Cap Lifter.

Very glad to see folks are familiar with Founders! I didn't realize their distribution reached all the was to California but thats great news for them. My wife is from Michigan and we lived briefly in East Grand Rapids and were able to frequent them and several other great breweries in the area. As far as beer goes its generally pretty tough to beat a northern beer IMHO. We of course have great Bourbons and Whisky's here in the South but just don't seem to have the same knack for brewing beer as northern friends.

Thanks Greg, I hope you make it over my friend :)

Looking through this thread always gives me a thirst! :D

Greg, I think you should consider yourself fortunate to have tried the Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout! Some folks complain about the "lolly scramble" associated with the release of some GEC models, and the annual limited release of KY BS is just as bad - both situations prime examples of huge demand, limited supply. I know a guy who works in the former gypsum mines under Grand Rapids that are now used for various types of storage, and I think he knows where the KY BS is aged, but he won't give me sufficient info to mount a decent commando raid! :(:D:D

Back in the early 1970s when I was in college, Leinekugels was strictly a Wisconsin beer. I had a friend from Chicago whose family would make periodic trips north to load the car with cases of Leinie. I thought it tasted FAR better than Coors, which was a legendary limited distribution "grail beer" for most midwestern college beer drinkers at the time.

Thanks for the compliment on the big Buck Randy sent me, Shawn! I've been keeping my eyes open for a decent second-hand black Valox 301 for quite a while, but this Chinese version is excellent.

I'm kind of a porter guy, so that beer front and center looks pretty good! Another porter on the left, but that one has some ingredients that strike me as a bit strange!;)

And that tip-bolstered Camco cap lifter is fantastic!!! I don't remember hearing about that Glennbad project before; belated congrats to both of you!!:thumbup:

Extra cold beer today, as I grill pork tenderloin in the fading light.

GT, here's a shot of the PachaMama in a glass. Honestly, the "extra" ingredients didn't impart much flavor on the beer. I've been a fan of most of the chili/pepper beers that I've tried, but this one missed the mark. There was more heat from the booze than the pepper.

Urban South is one of the newest breweries to start in New Orleans, and they've certainly come out with a few beers that state their case as one of the better breweries in the City. Their beers are not ground breaking, but they are solid and true to style. I look forward to what they come up with next. There are a lot of breweries popping up down here, and it makes me very happy, especially because it makes the big players like Abita get off their butts and start making good beer again.

Great pic of your Camco Shawn, Glenn did a fantastic job there (as usual)

I suppose you would call that a "Kentucky Mule"? Certainly sounds better to me than the Moscow version (vodka never really did much for me).

How is that Hudson bourbon? I guess it's something about the price for such a small bottle, I've never pulled the trigger on trying it.
