Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

It’s a really good one!

If you ever make it up here, their brewery is a fun one to visit - they have a couple of locations where they serve pretty great food and of course, a nice tap selection.

In my last post in this thread, I lamented the fact that apparently I'll be unable to buy 6- or 12-packs of Leinenkugel's Snowdrift Vanilla Porter, one of my seasonal favorites. But I recently found a new (or at least new-to-me) Leinie product that might help alleviate some of my disappointment. This Chocolate Dunkel is very chocolatey, but it's pretty good. The label claims that it's a "smooth, drinkable, and decadent lager", and I've always aspired to develop a reputation as a smooth and decadent guy, so the beer and I are made for each other!

December 23rd: This one is apparently a collaborative effort between E9 Brewing Co. and Upright Brewing, out of Tacoma, WA. It is called Snakehips Stout and is an excellent example of a dry, roasty Stout. It's really good and makes for easy drinking - especially where Stouts are concerned.

I have some catching up to do as we wind down to the conclusion of my own Advent.

December 18: This one is another import and the second one to be had from Samuel Smith's. This is their Organic Raspberry Fruit Ale. My experience with Fruit Ales are generally in the form of a sour or a light ale with more subtle fruit notes. I am really picky about sours, in that most of them I do not care for - however, some of the more fruit forward sours (particularly berry ones) can be an absolute treat. This one is different in that it is almost akin to a sparkling fruit beverage with a lot of body - in short, it is really, really pleasant.

I have had it before but it has been a few years and I'd say my fondness for it hasn't diminished. The process by which it is brewed is interesting: according to the label on the bottle, it is an ale that is brewed with wheat and barley, undergoing a couple of fermentation processes before it is sent to Tadcaster where they blend in pure raspberry juice and an unnamed cellared ale.

It is very raspberry forward, with a very balanced tartness to sweetness ratio. I could drink a LOT of this and likely regret it later.

Dylan, I've enjoyed your and Barrett's reports on the beers in your "Advent Calendars"!:cool::thumbsup:
I think the beers you've been drinking this month are more to my taste than those in Barrett's German Calendar; your wife and daughter seem to have done a fantastic job! 🤓

Do you remember where you got your Killian's drinking vessel pictured above? I probably drink more Killian's Irish Red than any other single brand of beer, and should look into finding a mug something like yours. Thanks!

We’re doing Christmas with my brother and his family out in Utah this year. We stopped at the state-run liquor store yesterday and picked up a few local beers. First up is Nitro Polygamy Porter from Wasatch Brewing.

Galena Brewing Co. is one of our favorite places. This was an American Amber Ale they call Minner’s Treasure. Yummy! 😉👍
Sorry for the poor photo, the bar was crowded and I was getting weird looks.

I hate when people are looking at me like a crazy person, when I whip out a knaf to take a pic! Just let me take my knaf and beverage picture and leave me alone…😂😂

I didn't do anything formal like a Beer Advent Calendar for the holidays, but I often manage to snag some brews around this time of year that my wife gets me for Christmas or my birthday, which are less than a week apart. She usually gets me brands that I typically don't get for myself during the year, and she tends to get mostly porters and stouts, since she knows I end up liking most of those. One liquid gift she gave me was a 12-pack of 4 different kinds of stout from the Saugatuck (MI) Brewing Co. Here's one of them, their Neapolitan Milk Stout. I'm quite amazed that I can taste and/or smell all 3 of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry in this stout. Not my favorite stout, by any means, but it's certainly very drinkable and technically impressive (to a non-brewer like I am).
