Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

Gorgeous Puukko Greg

After a nice walk yesterday, I had a couple of pints of Kirkstall Brewery's 'Virtuous' in one of my favourite pubs

Just put a big pot of chili into the oven for the hand-cut brisket and chuck to braise for two or three hours. Time to relax a bit before wrapping up the last lingering tasks of the weekend. Mezcal margarita, with the Becker Kephart that sliced to lime.

I hope everyone had a good weekend. Fortunately the next one's less than a week away. ;)

Thanks, Jack! It tasted pretty good, too! ;)

A couple of years ago another member generously loaned me his BK62 after I'd expressed interest in the pattern. When I mailed it back to him, I thought that I'd satisfied my curiosity and that it was out of my system. Well, that only lasted so long. Eventually I got another itch to explore the pattern and ordered one of my own. The scales arrived a bit rough, but after treating with washed linseed oil they look a lot better to my eye. As a knife, I really like it. It's a good slicer for its thickness and it also works well for splitting small pieces of wood and carving feather sticks. It feels smaller and more manageable than I'd expected a 5" blade to be. I still need to really put it through it's paces, but I've enjoyed it for the little bit of fire building stuff I've used it for in the backyard and the slicing tasks I've given it in the kitchen.
