Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

This one here is a different caplifter, paired with two of my favorite San Diego brews.

Great pic Pokerface  I only know the AB, great brew (but costs an arm and a leg here)

I bet! Going through some of the comments here and hearing some of the prices for craft brew, makes me appreciate how close I am to many of these breweries.

The pic is from an area here called Sunset Cliffs.

Caught the train down to Dublin from Belfast last week to have a look around and retrace some of the haunts of my favourite Irish writers.

Good stuff Chin :) Better than the Derry-Belfast line eh? Feller once tried to throw me off the train for drinking ginger beer! :D

LOL!

It was a fine trip to make during the day, Jack. I really do enjoy any kind of train trip through new country. Fortunately, I was driven up to Derry with my Irish friends and hosts on the way back to Belfast from Donegal and the west coast, so I didn't have to contend with the slow train ride there.

In the way of beverages, the big brewers seem quite pervasive in Irish pubs. Although I've enjoyed the odd craft type drop here and there, I've not seen anything like say, the massive range of brews on tap at the Sheffield Railway station bar that you recommended.

I did do the Guinness brewery tour while down south, which was actually quite good - a great view of Dublin from the top level of the remodeled Storehouse.

Saw a great exhibit on the old time coopers once employed there - at the zenith of their oak barrel production, Guinness employed three hundred coopers. This once great trade almost vanished within about twenty years with the advent of stainless steel barrels and buckets.

You guys would probably enjoy this short film showing expert cask creation from seasoned billets.

This could be heresy but here is my Beverages and Blades shot; I must explain that in an extremely cruel twist of fate, I am allergic to beer! I do enjoy an occasional glass of red however. Normally our fine Oregon Pinot's.

Great shots, Chin! I love the idea of drinking on a train. :D (Sadly, passenger trains here in the States exist only as a novelty at this point, but I like the thought of sitting back with a drink and watching the country roll by.)

Nothing wrong with a glass of wine in the Beverages and Blades thread, Alan! We're accepting of all libations. :D Allergic to beer, though… that's straight from my nightmares! ;)

The weather has been wonderful here the last few days. :D

Well, thanks! Yes my allergy to something in beer has been one of the curses of my life. Fortunately, I can handle a couple glasses of red (only red). Really, I probably should not be allowed to handle sharp objects[emoji849]

Sorry to hear about the beer allergy, but you and your glass of red are very welcome here.

I just happened to have a bottled of Oregon Pinot on my shelf, so I figured I'd join you.

Cheers Barrett. Yes, there's something very compelling to taking a long train trip, which is quite different to flying or driving for me. It's something I always like to indulge in when exploring a new country, and sipping a tasty drink while watching it all roll by, just adds to the enjoyment.

Ha, true!

They look like some nice pinots there lads, and that coffee ale looks intriguing.

Great post Chin, and an excellent report my friend. Sounds like you're still having a great time :) I once shared a carriage on the Belfast-Dublin train with a Hen Party! :D Fortunately, it was early, and they were well-behaved and generous with their Champagne! :D

I love wine, but that's cruel Alan. Do you mind my asking if it's a gluten allergy (a few gluten-free beers starting to appear)?

I do like those wee bars of Green & Blacks! :D

Thanks for the welcome Greg and enjoying a glass together. Nice color there, the knife and the wine;)

I don't think so Jack. I don't have any food allergies that I know of. If I drink a beer or two, I will almost immediately get a terrible headache, clogged sinuses, eyes water etc.etc. I think it's something that is in all beers like hops or something. It's been so long that I've adapted.

That's rotten Alan, sorry to hear that my friend :( At least the world is full of fantastic wines :) Cheers

Easiest 12% I have every drank. Super good with enough Maltiness to cover up that high alcohol.
