Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

I had the good fortune of being invited to a Bordeaux tasting party yesterday. They were pouring some of the greatest wines ever produced. Many of the French wine makers, execs or owners or their reps were visiting Dallas from Bordeaux. The lure to get them here was a pairing challenge with food from some of the best barbecue restaurants in Texas. It was a hell of a party. Totally overwhelming lineup: one unicorn wine after the next! I took lots of pictures; most without knives Less as the drinking accelerated🍷 😬. Here’s one that’s fit for this thread. Looks impressive, Dave!:thumbsup::cool:

I don't know anything about French wines (or any wines for that matter ), but I've been known to imbibe in Irish beer now and again. I've had a 12-pack of this version of Guinness to enjoy occasionally throughout February. Here's a couple of pics of an Italian agricultural knife with a bottle of Extra Stout.

Wow, I haven't had a Lindeman's Lambic in years, but I think your post will inspire me to track one down!
So good! I poured some tonight for a neighbor friend who says she hates beer. She drank two glasses before I told her what it was.🤣 They are easier to find around here (Dallas) than they used to be.

Special treat for you Blokes

The Tiddler and The Bucaneer.
Dwapped out a circular saw blade.
Said to myself...Self make a knife.
I'm proud of them despite some obvious faults.
Tiddler: handle way to short but peined handles using brass screws are solid as...lesseon learned..don't do countersink...
Buccaneer; make tang thinner.
Aside from that...I made the hilt and handle...happy with those.
End of day they are built from scrap..AND THEY WILL CUT...😄

My wife almost never drinks alcohol anymore, but 40 years ago she'd have a lambic now and then. I hadn't thought of that beverage in a very long time. 🤓

That is an incredible wine line up. I would consider myself lucky to have the opportunity to taste just 1 or 2 of those. And paired with BBQ too!!

Any favorites from the wines that you tasted?

Still thinking about that unicorn Chateau Chauvin Bordeaux blanc de noir (delicious balanced white made from 100% cab Sauvignon). And poured by the great Sylvie Cazes herself. French Wine royalty but the most lovely person.

The 2000 Haut Bailly was sensational at 26 years old, and could easily be even better in 20 more years. Just amazing what the French can do with a red blend.

And the 1989 Chateau Rieussec Sauternes was one of the best liquid desserts I’ve ever had.

Too many to choose. It was overwhelming honestly. I don’t know how sommeliers do it. Some other favorites pictured here too. Never thought I’d get to taste an 89 Mouton Rothschild 😬IMG_0093.jpegIMG_0022.jpegIMG_0122.jpegIMG_0076.jpegIMG_0014.jpegIMG_9933.jpegIMG_9931.jpegIMG_9925.jpeg
