Beware of Microtech Knives

I have sent 2 DA back to microtech and received them both back no problems or bills. This in the I say past 3 years. I sorry to hear that so many people are having problems with MT's customer service.

This is frustrating just to hear. I've never owned a Mirotech before and probably never will due to their terrible business practices...

I should take that personally. I was "Made In America" myself.

Rants against an entire country when the fault lies with a company are unfortunate.
Microtech has been a disaster for years. Consider Protech or Benchmade autos for reliability.

I'm not really ranting, and I don't intend to impugn all American industry, there are still some good, quality, companies out there, however the very real and painful truth is that "Made In America" is nowhere near the stamp of quality it once was, particluarly hard hit has been the firearms industry, Marlin was forced to close down it's levergun plant due to ongoing serious QC issues. Allow me to repeat that, they were forced to close it down due to their inability to meet their own QC standards! One of the grand old names in the firearms industry forced out because they had become incompetent, an astounding admission. Ruger has been sending one lemon after another to market for a long time now, clearly intoxicated on the concept of using your own customer base as your R&D, and charging them for the privilege! What I'm hearing about Microtech is very disturbing, I could have landed a Glock for what the Combat Troodon set me back, it's not a good feeling to drop over $400.00 on an automatic OTF knife and then have it fail repeatedly fresh out of the box, then tune in to a thread such as this one, loaded down with evidence of the complete indifference of the American manufacturer who produced it....

On the sunny side, Jay's has turned out to be a splendid dealer, that really makes all the difference in a situation such as this, it's awfully reasurring to know that the dealer who sold it to you will stand behind it, no matter what.

Where are you from that you are so "up" on USA produced guns & knives? Are you from the USA?

Marlin moved it's operations to Remington which was controversial but in their best interest. To my knowedge (limited) they were not "forced" to do this but couldn't contain QC on the lever action as you mentioned.

IMO, you're way off base about Ruger which is a strong company and still cranking out solid firearms with a Customer Service department that does full service repair if needed. I have an SP-101 which is probably one of the best constructed .357's that I've owned.

As far as OTF shanks, they're dicey with any company and I wouldn't own one. I have several out the side openers that are very dependable but they're curiosities and toys to me as Sebenzas, XM-18's and such, are more my idea of a pocket knife. If you care to drop $4 to $6 hundred on an OTF, then good luck on you because they're toys to me and not something I'd ever stake my life on.

I dont see how it would be possible for the tip to break on a side opening knife just by opening it.
Hitting something... yes.
Dropping it... yes.
Prying with it.... yes.
Opening it... no.
Good luck.
PS - Microtech Bashers, please sell me your microtechs.
