Be careful if you deal with him, ask for plenty of pictures and don't use FF.

Before you comment on this thread, ask if you'd be ok with getting a blade like this without the seller disclosing the blemishes which the rules say you have to do.

Sold me this Busse which looks like had rust on it that he tried to clean off and a couple of pitting spots. Didn't disclose any of these blemishes beforehand. He said it came like that but I've had dozens of Busse blades and have never seen this. I contacted him and he said he didn't think there was anything wrong with it and that the shop would take care of it, squarely putting the blame and responsibility on them and myself to get it to them.

So now it's costing me time and money because he didn't disclose the blemishes which the exchange rules clearly state a seller is supposed to.

I gave him negative feedback for not disclosing the blemishes and he retaliated by giving me negative feedback for "poor communication" and "false accusations." Still waiting for admin to remove the negative feedback he gave me.

Proper protocol for a complaint thread is to tag the member you are complaining about so that he can provide his side of the transaction:
ScoMa ScoMa

To my eyes that looks more like decarb on the flats of the blade. Try asking the Busse shop for their opinion/recommendation.

I was unaware of this thread. Thank you tagging me, knarfeng knarfeng

Any time additional pics are requested, I will provide them. You never asked for any.

You also never asked to return the sword. If you had, I would have gladly sent you your money back after returning the sword. Your comment about FF leads me to believe you would have filed a dispute to get your money back and keep the sword. I may be misinterpreting your words, but that’s the impression they give.

Interestingly, your phrasing here is a bit different than it was in our Direct Message. I will quote our DM to clarify any confusion there may be. I welcome the mods to check the DM, and verify I have changed nothing.

ScoMa : Tracking shows delivered. Checking in to verify you have it, and to ask how you like it
Dan : Yes it was delivered today. Did you buy it new?
ScoMa : Yes, Sir! I ordered it sterile from Busse. Never used it for anything other than holding it, and feeling badass.
Dan : Gotcha. There are a couple of small pits in it and some stains on one side like it started to rust. I contacted Garth and he's having me send it in to the ship to see what they can do. (Two of the pics in the OP were included here)
ScoMa : That’s the way it came to me. I didn’t realize there was a problem with it, or I would have sent it back myself. I am sorry to hear you are not happy with it. I hope, and assume, garth gets it exactly how you want it.
Dan : It didn't come like that. You let it rust then tried to clean the rust off and pass it off. It was bad enough to start pitting. You lying to me earned you negative feedback
ScoMa : I am not lying to you, and I did not try to clean anything to pass it off. If you had continued to discuss this with me, I would have done whatever I could do make you happy. Instead of handling the situation like a gentleman, you assume the worst, give me negative feedback, and lie about me. Wash my hands of you.
Dan : So you retaliate by giving me negative feedback. We'll see what the admins have to say. The knife was terribly blemished and you didn't tell me, there's evidence you tried to remove the rust on it and you told me it came that way new and you didn't think there was an issue with it. I've bought dozens of Busse blades, most new directly from them and I've never had one as terribly blemished as that. You're a liar and liars don't get second chances because then they just lie more.

I never lied to you about anything. That is the way the sword came to me, and no modifications or cleanings were done while it was in my possession. Before telling me about any of your perceived problems with the sword, you contacted Garth and decided to send it back in. I never said to contact the shop. I never put blame or responsibility on anyone. I only told you the truth. You never even gave me the chance to remedy your disappointment. Instead, you call me a liar, and leave me negative feedback.

So now it's costing me time and money because he didn't disclose the blemishes which the exchange rules clearly state a seller is supposed to.

If I truly failed to adhere to any of the rules here, I apologize. I can honestly say any infraction would be accidental, and unintentional. For good measure, I will read through the rules before I post another listing to ensure I remain within them.

It wasn’t “retaliation”. I genuinely had a negative interaction with you. You have made false accusations against me, smeared my name with your negative feedback, contacted the admin, and created this thread to further damage my reputation. But, yeah. I’m the one people should be careful to deal with.

I’m with ScoMa ScoMa on this one. I have received 3 Busse swords that had VERY similar “pits” on them and it came directly from Busse that way. Scoma has always been a great forum member with a SOLID reputation as far as I’m concerned. Dan seems toxic and I’d never want to transact anything with someone who immediately calls someone with 100% positive feedback a lair and almost immediately escalates the situation rather than asking for possible options to resolve the situation, LIKE RETURNING THE SWORD FOR A REFUND.

https://www.bladeforums.com/help/exchange-rules/ Section 2, Point 6. You can't follow the rules so yes, people DO have to be careful dealing with you. It's not "smearing your name" if it's true. Withholding pertinent information that the exchange rules (and common, ethical trade practices) say you have to disclose is the same as lying and I'm not going to trust a liar. I'm supposed to trust sending it back to you and that you're going to refund $900 when you can't even be truthful and honest about the condition of the blade?

You didn't disclose the condition, something the exchange rules specifically say you have to, plain and simple. Twist whatever else however else you want, that's the fact.

Is that not just decarb? Im not picking or choosing sides but thats not pitting unless im missing something in those photos. Oh well, why not just return it to the seller and get your money back? Confusing

So him not following the rules is ok? You'd be ok with a blade like that when it wasn't disclosed? You can't trust him to follow the rules and you're going to trust him to refund the money? Btw 22 positive feedback isn't "stellar"

Btw how is me warning other people to get more pictures if there going to deal with your friend "toxic?"

Thank you for your opinions but he FACT is he misrepresented a $900 blade, plain and simple and other people should be careful dealing with him.

Because he deliberately didn't disclose the condition. I'm not going to trust that he's going to refund $900 that he wanted FF for. There are a couple of small pits, not just the stains. Would you be ok with receiving a blade like that when it wasn't discussed?

DanR217 DanR217 , so you’re telling me that you spent $900 on a sword without asking about the condition? Have you ever heard of doing due diligence especially if something is not clearly stated. What you’re seeming to miss is that you are assuming the worst of someone with 100% positive feedback, has been here 8 years, and is very active in the forum not just the exchange. Which means he not trying to screw people over if he forgot or failed to mention the condition. You need to take ownership of your own lack of due diligence. Next time, ask questions before you buy.

What makes you seem toxic is the fact that you called him a lair after he told you he bought it directly from Busse and then proceeded to escalate the situation for the worst possible outcome rather than simply asking for a refund from a member with 100% positive feedback and 8 years of membership.

Who said I didn't ask about the condition? You're putting all sorts of words in my mouth. Him being active is an argument that he should know he has to disclose blemishes and that he didn't on purpose.

Odd you didn't answer my questions 🤔

I gave him negative feedback because he directly violated the rules and other people need to see that if they deal with him. I've been here 15 years and never given anyone negative feedback because people follow the rules. I didn't break any rules. Then he retaliated and gave me negative feedback and I was told I'd have to start a thread here before they'd remove it.

I don't understand why you're trying so hard to defend him. HE BROKE THE RULES. You saying it's my fault it's ridiculous. It's like if you bought a new car and it blew up and they said, "well you didn't ask if it would blow up or not" you'd say oh well yeah I guess I didn't. Bye now, I'm done with you trolling me. Gotta love that ignore button.

I’m saying that right now. The only questions you asked were if it was stripped (no, factory stonewashed sterile), and if you had the correct PP account (you did). John may have made an assumption, but he wasn’t wrong.

You said it was new, what else was there to ask? Someone tells you something is new and you keep asking questions about the condition?

All that matters is that you broke the rules by not disclosing the blemishes, plain and simple.

100% no one would be ok with buying a knife that was advertised as being new and it showing up looking like that without disclosure.

Back to the ignore bin with your buddy John 👋🏻

Yes, the sword was in new condition, meaning the condition I received it in from the manufacturer.

No, I never said it was new. Not in the listing. Not in our DM. Not in this thread. And you never asked.

I am truly sorry this is how our deal turned out. I’m going to bed. I hope you can sleep on this, reassess the entirety of the situation from a different perspective, and realize there was never any ill intent from me.

I’ve also gotten a number of Busse knives come like that straight from the factory when stonewashed. It’s not pitting at all, more of a finishing blemish or something? Left over oil residue? Not sure, but look at how uniform/repetitive the spots are. And Busse does warn of machining marks and such when receiving uncoated blades. Seems like a new unused Busse if I’ve ever seen one.

That doesn’t look like rust, or like somebody tried to scrub rust from off of it. At all. Also I’m not seeing any pits. Looks like somebody jumped the gun, bigly.
