BG-42 G10/rd/blk Micarta 110 still available!

I couldn't resist, I love the fact of the classic knife design in a modern handle material

I just sent an E-mail to Pete, about placing order for one of those!
Let see!The USPS might knock on my door soon!

Could you give me an e-mail address? Since I live in Europe it would be, I quess, the best way of ordering.

I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks,

Franco

P. S. I am sorry, but who is Pete?

Mr. Pete Mason, responsabile for custom shop order I guess!
I did not any reply for my query!
So he might be not the right person !

I came back this afternoon from a few days near Gulf Shores, AL - first vacation in over two years - and the last for a while, the way everything is going. I did get two new Bucks while down that-away - a 650 and a CPM154 192 Vanguard - pretty cool. When I got home, there was that box from Post Falls, ID... and my second BG-42/G10/Blk-rd Micarta 110. Wow!

I had to get out the other one's box - kind of neat packaging - I know I'll never use it anyway, but why not a more distinctive sheath? That looks & smells like the usual 110 black leather 'Made in Mexico' sheath. Yeah, had to find 'something' to pick at... the knife is, well, perfect!

If you don't have one - and can swing it before they run out, get one - they really are just nice. Sharp & very serviceable blade - and great scales. The nickel silver bolsters just finish the package.

I bragged too much about my second one... it was actually a bit gritty and difficult to open, and especially to close, when compared with the first one. A spritz or two of an aerosol cleaner - I used RemOil - and I saw some fine black appear - dust from the G10 or Micarta sanding? At any rate, problem solved. WD40 would probably be fine. Keep a white paper towel under it to see if anything is blasted/floated out.

Of course, while doing this - and watching the tube - I managed to close it on my right forefinger. Just a bad 'paper cut', but still... never been bit by a 110 before - and after all of these years!. That's my 'trigger finger' - and today was to be 'range day'. I've done a lot worse with my old 301.

Still, what a bargain!

Ordered 2 G-10 110 bg-42's this morning (one for go and one for show). Did not ask how may were left but if you want one better get on the tele as they will not last forever.... earlier post has info on what extention to ask for. $110 each plus $10 shipping for both. As Homer Simpson would say.....WOO HOO!

Also, recently obtained a Simonich Raven Legacy and my best description would be: DAINTY. Not a lot of heft to it. But have not tested it and maybe it's a case of quality beats quantity....hope so!

Well, it may be simply that my injured forefinger prevented me from my usual Monday at the range. Somehow, I started comparing my two BG-42 BCCI specials. The first one is perfect. This second one, besides being dangerously stiff in the lock back - actually taking both thumbs to depress it far enough to unlock it - very dangerous, as my forefinger found yesterday, well, sadly, that's not all. The bolster overhangs the scale on one end, while the same scale overhangs the opposite bolster. I wonder how this one passed a cursory inspection... much less an operational one. I guess I'll call and see if they'll swap it for a good one.

Odd - sometimes it's good to get those reading glasses out! Sadly, this is now the worst 110, or, actually, any Buck, that I have bought. I did get a similarly stiff closing Bear 297 locally - the store allowed me to swap it. This may very well be worst knife I have bought. I shall keep my glasses in my pocket when I look at future arrivals. My 560XLT Ti 110 is somewhat stiff - but acceptable - this isn't.

I think one thing that makes this even worse is that it is a custom shop knife. This is not to say that they didn't miss the mark on what should have been a routine QA inspection, but I would expect a higher level of "attention to detail" on a custom shop knife that typically runs far north of $100. If this was a knife that I ordered I would be compelled to voice my disatisfaction in the form of a phone call to Buck prior to shipping it back. Buck really needs to get this QA issue turned around. On a personal note, the custom 110 I recently received was outstanding. I only wish they all could be counted on to be that way.

The unmatched bolster/scale junction was obvious to the feel - vision as well, if the reader's are on! Pete called me back yesterday - it is USPS Priority Mail on it's way - $11.05 shipping added now to it's cost. He apologized and promised he'd inspect another one before sending it on it's way - after they receive my return. More of a wait - and more cost - uncharacteristic for a Buck.

I have a 'few' 110s bought for $8-$30 at Wally World, some 'specialty' 110s, a few custom shop 110s, and my first BCCI BG-42/G10/Micarta 110 - all came the same way - centered blade, great scale/bolster fit, reasonably stiff lockback - and no wobble.:D This was a first, sad to say.:( That one should have been rejected.

Stainz, sorry to hear about the poor quality of your second G-10 110 but glad to hear it is being resolved.

I just received mine and the fit and finish are perfect. This is my first Buck from the Custom Shop and I gotta say that I'm really impressed. I'll try to get pics up soon.

Pete called - left a message. My knife is there, he'll ship my replacement in the AM. I'm feeling better! The really bad news, to me, is that my original one went back to my display stand... I had been carrying it, since I had a 'spare' for display. I'll replace it when the other one arrives.

Why did I need a spare?? My son really didn't want another regular 110 when I gave him the Christmas Special from last year for his birthday in Jan - I had bought it 'on closeout' for $18. He said it was 'too nice' - and, as a commercial pilot who occasionally airlines to another plane, he has lost a few knives - even his miniature instrument adjustment screwdrivers have been 'taken' by security checks. Oh yeah... I'm a knife glutton, I nearly forgot!

Iron city, this should get you there...Buck phone number is in posting above. Ask for model # g-10 , 110 , bg-42. price = $110 +$10 shipping. Good luck.:)

Yep - still available. I just called Buck's 'Store' - the 800# Ext 3 Option 4 - and good old Pete answered! Where doesn't he work there? I neglected to ask re the cost in October - it was $125 - then $150 - then $125 - then $110 through today, at least. Add $10 s/h. The 'snakeskin' pattern on the G10 is interesting... my user (This will be my second!) may have it sanded/polished smooth. Or - my older son may have a great Christmas/Birthday present. He's a 'captain' (pilot) for a large Alabama/southeast bank that dropped 41% yesterday... may need a 'pick me up' (Or another job!) soon. It's a heck of a knife - BG-42 blade - nickel silver bolsters. Neat presentation box, if you need a great gift.
