Bg-42 Still Available?

I've seen the posts saying Buck is out of BG-42 steel but it still shows up as an option in the Custom Shoppe 110 builder. I'm wondering what happens if I place an order online?

Does anyone know if the BG-42 or Damascus will be coming back at all ??
 
i am pretty sure they are out of bg42 and it sounds like they substitute what they have if you order so your safe bet would be to call them (i had no luck) or send an email (took a few days)
 
I'm 'kinda finicky about getting exactly what I order. I don't go for unauthorized substitutions...guess I better call or forget it.

Don't understand why they can't update that website.
 
its worth contacting them , i waited about six months before contacting them
i tried by phone but give up so i used email and it took about a week to hear back from them but they are getting me exactly what i was after
i wanted a second knife with the s30v droppoint but i think they are out of that though
 
This must be why I haven't recieved the knife I ordered August 10th!
They need to tune up their customer service...

....And it remains to this day an option at the Custom Shoppe ?? So my question has yet to be answered.

If it is indeed "Resting in peace", two questions come to mind:

1. Why was it retired? and 2. What will be taking it's place?

Curious minds want to know.
 
S30V will be available soon as an option in the custom shop per c/s. I've asked to be put on the email notification list when it happens.

Two questions come to mind:

C/S is customer service.

When customer service told me that S30V would soon be available to the custom shop, perhaps as early as this month, they offered to put me on a notification list. When the custom shop actually does offer S30V I would receive an email telling me so.

That is a list I want to be on. I want a Stag, nickel silver, finger groove with S30V and I don't care who knows it.

I was at Crucible Service Centers website, I noticied they don't stock BG-42. They do stock the 154-CPM and S30V. They also stock S60V and S90V, could these be blade options we may see in the future.
 
I would like to see more choices in blade steel offered as the expertise in those new steels is mastered by the fine craftsmen in the custom shop.

i was going to buy a custom with bg42-when the maker said he now use's cpm154 i decided to pass
 
Well my custom Buck 110 with non finger grooved Elk slabs and ns bolsters came in, it looks really nice, but I was supposed to get bg-42, and the blade is stamped ats-34 . It took 3 months to get...so I will keep it
They must get a lot of emails because they are slow to respond.
I have to add that this is the sharpest knife I have ever had!

I really don't take too kindly to "bait and switch," though I doubt it was intentional.

If the BG-42 is gone, it should be taken off the options. At the very least, Buck Custom should have contacted you about the swap before doing it.

I have a custom order in for a BG-42 blade. If it comes back as something else without their checking with me first, I will be raising a little cain with the custom shop. :D

According to this thread, there's still some BG-42 floating around.
 
my thought is if you can get s30v go for it!
on ghr bg 42 being gotten?
well it is like so many things.
they may be out.... some one cancles an order or dont pay for the order
then they have some...
depends on jest when they cancle and
if you talk to them before i do.
i know i have called and some things were then next time they were't
and some one else calles and they get it on a order because some got put back....
so i would not balme the girls there at all ...
as more of us are learning to go ahead and call or email
they jest have more to do !
also if any of you guys get cought in a long wate hang up and call back
as there is a glitch in the hold feature that some times it dont tell them that
there is a call on line
do not stay on hold for over 10 min...
besides Deep6Osama may be on the phone trying to sweet talk and locating more of that bg42! :D

BBB, Buck did have about 50 Damascus blanks about 5 or so weeks ago. They didn't post it on their site as an option because they had so few blanks available. I ordered a custom Buck, (Damascus-serrated/NS bolsters/FG/Sambar Stag). ETA was given right before Xmas. They were charging I think around $70 or $75 for the Damascus upgrade. I think out the door I spent around $170. Just FYI...
